    car hire

Just wondering whether it would be worth getting the cheapest car hire over in the UK and then upgrading to a people carrier at the airport. Would it be cheaper to upgrade in the USA or just pay for the people carrier in the UK. The prices seem to have increased since I went last year and wondering what the cheapest option is. There are only 2 adults and 2 children going but we will have 8 suitcases plus hand luggage coming back as we all intend to shop, shop and shop!!!

It's really not a good idea to upgrade in any way at the airport as this can cost between $30 - $150 PER DAY extra when you come to collect. It more or less gives the rental companies an excuse to charge you whatever they feel they can get away with.

Definitely do it in the UK. I had to book a car for one day from Dollar at there depot on the 192. It cost me $155.00. for the one day and that was in May of this year!!!!. It would have cost me £22.00 if I had done it here in the UK.

I'll second all above. We once had to hire a larger car because we couldn't get the pushchair etc in the one we booked. It cost us double and that was just an upgrade one size [msnmad] Never made that mistake again
