I agree with a previous comment, we just stay up when we return I usually have one to two hours sleep on the plane on the way home. This year we drove back to Scotland from Manchester which took us about four hours with a couple of stops. We stayed up until 9.30pm slept until 8.30 the next morning and that was us back to normal, my sons and their girlfriends who were with us did the same and they were all fine too.

We have done this several times and never have any jet lag.

Try to keep on the go the day you return, with me and most women it will be getting on with the washing and shopping and off course the phone calls to loved ones to say you are home and telling them all about the wonderful time you have had, this soon passes the time.

    Good luck.

Sorry for being stupid, but when exactly do you take the melatonin tablets? Is it one a day every day for five days before you fly or after you land?

Also, my daughter and husband took an over the counter sleeping tablet last time they travelled home. Would it be ok to use these with the melatonin tablet?

    Thanks

Take them after you land. It is one a day for the number of hours time difference i.e. 5 hours difference between Florida and UK so take one each night for 5 nights.

I would not think it was at all advisable to take sleeping tablets and Melatonin at the same time as they are both trying to do the same thing and get you back into a normal sleep routine.

We have used Melatonin too and it works wonder. We find we suffer more than the kids, they get back to the time zones so easily. We can't always stay up until night but take a short nap say an hour, put the alarm on and although so very tired make sure we wake up but it's enough to get us through to about 10.30pm.

Can I just correct Mo's post- you do not take them after you land [as in immediately] you take them as follows:-
1 tablet 20 minutes before you want to sleep at night.......
I take one in Florida too, just for the first night, to try and keep me asleep until a decent time...........but in the UK, when you land early morning, go home and go to bed for 2 hours and force yourself up....keep going all day, take a melatonin at night and you will sleep all night- we usually find after 3 nights we don't need them any more.
The tablets contain Seratonin, a substance produced by the brain in darkness.

Ooops - should have made that clearer. I tend to take them as I get into bed. That way you don't get distracted and are not wandering around still doing things an hour after taking them. They do make you feel relaxed but are not strong enough to make you feel sleepy if you do not give them a chance to work.

Melatonin is great. This is the 2nd time I've used them and would thoroughly recommend.

Just got back on Saturday, and I was the only one of us not to have slept a wink on the flight. Had an hour's sleep in the car on the M25, but otherwise kept myself going with unpacking, washing, opening mail, etc, until we all went to bed just after 8pm. I was the only one to take the Melatonin. I slept through until 11am - unlike DH and DD who were up at midnight for a couple of hours having a feast and watching TV. Eventually they got back to sleep and got up around 11am also. However, rest of family now feeling dreadful, DH slept in and was late for work first day back today. I feel absolutely fine but will probably still take a tablet for another couple of nights just to make sure.

We've just had night #1 using Melatonin after getting back from a great trip to California yesterday. So far so good [msnsmile]. We all managed an excellent night's sleep and will be trying it for a further 7 nights as suggested.

We usually suffer really badly with jetlag and don't know why we've ever not tried it before.
