    BMI Pulls out of Manchester

BMI is ending all services from Manchester to the USA and Caribbean.

    Last departures are :

    Chicago 14 January 2009
    Las Vegas 26 April 2009
    Antigua 24 April 2009
    Barbados 25 April 2009

The aircraft are being moved to Heathrow to support services to Riyadh, Cairo and Amman.

We flew with BMI from Manchester to Barbados last year and the service was excellent. I am very disappointed that they are pulling out of Manchester.

Glad I booked with Virgin for next March now.
Looks like I will have to get a Virgin Cr Card as well now. Not much point saving air miles with BMI if they are not going to fly from Manchester any longer.

This is of course on the heels of BA who have also stopped flying to anywhere except London now.

Quote from the flyer says this : "Our immediate priority is to secure alternatives for you to rebook your clients with the minimum of disruption. We intend to start re-accomodating from 11 November 2008, focusing first on Chicago services and will notify you of options available. If the options are not suitable for your clients they can be offered a full refund."

Aparrently BMI were taken over by Lufthansa on Monday. Seems they were after the London slots & tuff t*ts to the rest of UK.

Out of interest I looked at a flight from Manchester to Orlando next June via BMI website. Have to fly to London, then Washington, then on to Orlando. Think the shortest journey time was over 15 hrs! Longest 22 hrs 18mins. I don't think so!

That's a real shame - they offered a great service.

This has been on the cards for a while.

The fact is that scheduled carriers can't attract premium passengers in sufficient numbers to justify a regional departure. Sad news but almost inevitable with the prospect of even fewer passengers wanting to cross the Atlantic within the present economic climate.

Watch for American reducing their service to Chicago in the near future.
