Change of named driver.

We have hired a car, through this site, for 4 weeks over Christmas/New Year. We booked the Dollar Silver Option (2 named drivers) but now our son and wife (both over 25) have decided to join us for Christmas.

Their flight arrives about the same time us ours so we will not need 2 cars. We plan to take them back to the airport at the end of their stay. Rather than take the Gold Option for 4 weeks is it possible to put husband and son on as named drivers for the first week then, when we take son back, change the named driver to myself?

I suspect you will have to hire another car if you are wanting to change option to silver... at least you will get a clean one

Might be difficult to change now, but Roger will know more.

one option would have been to hire the car for the week with both hubby and son and then hire again with yourself on it, but this way you have to pay the tank of gas twice, which in the scheme of things it may well be cheaper to change to the gold for the whole time anyway.

On the Silver it allows 2 drivers total, so you can not change the 2 drivers part way through, or have Gold for part of it. You would need separate rentals.

If you are taking your son back after a week can you not just have the Gold option for the first week and then 3 weeks Silver. When you drop him off you can just change the car then. As it's even weeks I don't think it makes much difference to the price anyway and with the Silver you can pick up with a full tank and drop off full so you won't be paying extra for fuel.

Many thanks Roger - I guessed that would be the case. Will have a think about it but it maybe easiest just to stick with our original plan especially as we booked before the Dollar prices increased[msnwink] Will be in touch if we decide to change the booking.
