Driving from Florida to Texas

I'm considering driving to Houston in Texas from St Petersburg in Florida.

How long will a drive of this distance be? How can I plan a route and know where to stop for a hotel?

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

According to our good friend Mr Google his estimate is 1003 miles and take 15 hours by car. It looks a fairly easy route with lots on Interstates. The route will show which towns you are passing through so you can get an idea of where you want to stop for a hotel.

An easy option is to hire sat nav from http://www.uscarhire.co.uk/sat-nav.aspx and you can give a destination address which will be typed in for you. When we hired one earlier this year it also had 'POI's' on so you could also use that to find a hotel.
