'Free' Travel Insurance do you actually get cover?

    Hi
I have got free travel insurance with my natwest advantage gold account but i am aware that it does not cover companys going bust like XL just have.
I am trying to book travel insurance online that covers for this what is the wording on the policy for this?
I have booked a last minute trip to Cyprus in October with firstchoice/thompson (couldnt wait for my Florida trip nov 09) and paid for it in full on line with a credit card.

    Any help thanks
    Ali

Ali, you also need to check your Gold Card to see what medical cover it is for the USA, as sometimes it could not be sufficient. If there is any chance for you to upgrade to NatWest Black then you would have sufficient cover, entrance to airport lounges, plus a whole lot of other benefits. I have had a look at the policy wording as far as situations for XL go, but it is too complicated for me to copy. Sorry!!!

I am sure someone else like Blott will be able to assist you.

If you have paid for your trip with credit card then you dont need to worry about the travel insurance covering it as well.

I believe a visa debit card will also cover if an airline goes to the wall.

To get a Nat West Black card I see that you need an income of £75,000 and over - a very select club.

Just spoken to one of my renters who had to cancel her booking for next June because of TCD. She has spent the last 2 weeks ringing everybody and every help line trying to get recompense for loosing all her deposit money (over a £1000). Apparently her travel insurance she had from her Bank didnt cover bankruptcy, her debit card didnt cover it and ATOL has told her she is at the end of a very long queue of debtors and it is unlikely she will be refunded. She and her family are devastated as £1000 is a lot of money to lose. If anyone has any suggestions for me to pass along to her I would be grateful as never having been in this position myself I am no help to her. Gill

    Thanks for your good info.

Many Credit Card Providers offer free travel insurance protection to their cardholders. However, the cover tends be very basic, and is often referred to as "Travel Accident" cover. This means that credit card travel insurance cover does not apply to the traveller before they travel or when they arrive at their destination.

Therefore cover relating to cancellation, travel delay, missed departure and possessions cover are not applicable, making the credit card travel insurance product unsuitable for many travellers.

It is therefore very important that you check your credit card travel insurance policy carefully to ensure that it gives you the comprehensive cover you require before making your trip.

You can use Single Trip Travel Insurance Calculator and enjoy the insurance services.

    Thank you!
