I was going to get a new IMac to replace my 3 year old IMac. But we (The USA) are in a mess here! The economy is down the toilet. So I guess it's a tight budget christmas this year!

I'm afraid Apple is a dirty word in our house at the moment. Daughter has a Macbook and loved it. Very stylish easy to use way better for ease of use and aesthetically muc better too than most Windows laptops - then 2 month out of warranty the CD drive has given up and the quote to get it fixed was silly money.

To rub salt into the wound her iPod (six months out of warranty) has now gone belly up now too.

    She is not happy!!!

PS love the music from the new ipod ad though - Bruises by Chairlift - stupid lyrics but really catchy up beat tune.

New laptops being announced tomorrow at a meeting in Cupertino (that is tomorrow my time PST), so Liz's Macbook will be out of date. She doesn't care, as she has a beutiful gelaskin (www.gelaskins.com) on it an even skateboarders keep coming up to her and asking about her cool laptop!!

    Still nice though.

Hmmmm....try speccing the same build quality, weight, battery life, processor spec, dual video cards, hard drive etc - add-on the price of a suite of software as powerful as iLife. No contest - the Mac wins hands down IMHO

Totally agree. Like everything else in life, you get what you pay for.

My MacBook Air is made the same way as the new MacBook and MacBookPro and is a stunning laptop which feels incredibly string, even though it's really thin.

In all probability I will be buying this weekend. I agree, you do 'get what you pay for' but Apple's international pricing works against those of us outside the US. For example, the 'old' white model is still available and has been reduced in the US by $100 to $999 so they can say they have a "sub $1,000 laptop". In the UK, the price has gone UP by £25!

Overall, the US prices are 15% less than those outside the country and on pretty expensive items, than means a lot of money.

Buy it in the States - only thing you need to change is the power cord.
