Is this in relation to Florida or just a general observation?

Also, prices of fuel peaked at just over $4.00 per gallon around 2 weeks ago, and have been falling steadily each day since then, so hopefully the trend will continue. They are expecting prices to go up by around 10c per gallon over the next week of so, then to fall again and continue falling (this depends a bit which news reports you listen to as there are always conflicting predictions).

The highest its been where I live in MA is $4.59...its now down to $3.85..
I live on what you could call a small Island...so we don't need to travel far for anything..we are in the market for a new car...gas prices are not something we think about when doing that..

People were giving away their large trucks and SUVs for a song..a friend of my daughters got a truck he'd always wanted 20k cheaper...

I love it when you're sat in traffic with all those chromey big pick ups and SUVs to envy and admire but I think in the long term the Americans will be forced to trade down. Shame though, 4 lanes of Corsas and Fiestas, glinting in the sun, doesn't quite have the same appeal.

I can't see lots and lots trading down...maybe older people...but we held out in getting an SUV for 9 years..but in the end its a car we really have a lot of use for like a lot of people around here..looking around my neighbourhood...lots of new cars..very few of them small..right now the cost of buying a large SUV or truck is for once within the range of a lot more people..a bit like homes..we have a lot of young couples buying homes in town who could never have afforded it a few years ago...

A few weeks ago in the UK I was paying £1.20 (about $2.23) for a litre of petrol. Although it's now down to £1.14, I still wish we had the prices that the US has.

You seem to lucky Chrizzy you live in the right country when it come to car prices as with petrol here tax on cars are way above the price they should be , More people here are going for thr pre-owned cars it has been on the news today that new cars are still to dear in the UK for most people so the next business to go will be car showrooms .
We have been to Falmouth and it is friendly and quiet stayed in a time share .
Also the Red House for a few days

Chrizzy100,I'm not saying you shouldn't, I'm just saying that long term oil reserves are going to be a problem for everyone. Unfortunately, it's not an unlimited supply. I suspect the US manufacturers are trying to get rid before the wind blows in the other direction!

Expect fuel prices to rise with Gustav wreaking havoc in the gulf. Also, there are another two depressiond in the Atlantic, one of them is expected to develop further.
Two troughs of low pressure are also evident onshore W.Africa, these may also develop when they move offshore as expected.
Exciting times ahead for Florida & The Gulf.
