It is of course personal preference, but I would say South facing really comes into its own in the autumn and winter months when the sun is lower.
We are south facing and until recently hadn't been out in the summer. I was quite put out to find that my usual breakfast spot under the lannai was in the shade in the summer, but in the winter with the sun lower caught the first rays. As long as your owner can confirm you will get the sun, then I wouldn't worry

Our pool faces west and our pool deck gets the sun all day long because there are no houses nearby and we're single storey. That may not be the situation with every west facing pool though. We have a huge lanai (covered area) for those that prefer shade, along with a large paddle fan for those that want to cool down.

You really need to check out the situation with your individual home owner and question them about their statement that the pool deck is always 'in sunshine' because if they advertise that, then that's more than likely the truth. No point in advertising something that you haven't got or the owner would be inundated with guest complaints!

I am not a fan of South facing back gardens..sweating is not something I find fun..and seeing kids play in full FL sun gives me nightmares...no matter what time of year..

I have a deck where I live in full sun and we can never use it..so never again..

We are south facing and get the sun all day. We have also installed a large retractable awning for any of our guests who want the shade, it works a treat they all comment on it.

We have the best of both worlds - south-facing deck and covered lanai with ceiling fan - bliss

Us too Hutchy! Plus we're single storey. Plus the villa's either side are single storey too. Plus there's heaps of room between them. All that thinking and working out we did when Highlands Reserve was nothing but sand really did lead to an amazing result. Personally I don't think it gets any better ... but then again, I am a bit biased!!! [msnsmile2]

    My pool is south facing.

this is the best in the winter months. In the summer months, we wish we had more shade frm the lanai (as the sun sets it comes below and shines in). We have solved this by having lots of tall mature trees/hedges.

If you are renting in summer, an east/north facing pool might be best. you'd want it to be shadier and cooler in the evenings In winter, a south or west facing pool could be best.

all have their advantages/disadvantages. I think all are outweighed by how much your pool area is overlooked by others myself.
