sorry Julia, but we have been there and have come thru it, its sad but you would never want Corey to suffer.... there will come a day when the tears wont flow as much as they do today...... something silly may trigger them off just go with it and never be embarressed, he was your faithful copanion and am sure hes still around you in spirit..... thinking of you with tears in my eyes as im still missing my Arnie so much....

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

It's great to have a place where people understand. I wonder if John and Roger would consider a pets corner thread to share our happy and sad stories?

My Friend in Canada did a calendar and this was October -

    Dog's Soul

How can we say that a dog has no soul
If you own one you know it's not true
For when he looks with those lovely brown eyes
His very soul is looking at you.
No heart in this world is as loyal as his
    No human has his patience,
He lives just for you, you are his all
To obey, stand guard, and come at your call.
In heaven there must be a place for a dog
He has earned it, God Bless him
    To be there beside God

I made a big mistake of watching Eastenders this evening. I was uncontrollably crying and had to answer loads of questions from my daughter afterwards about Corey. Unfortuantely we were not with Corey when he was put to sleep, but the one good thing is that my daughter now knows that Corey being put to sleep was quick and painless.
I agree that the poems are fantastic, so beautiful and the meanings are so true. I have cried alot in the past 24 hours reading things, but did also find a fantastic dogs tribute website which I have put Corey on. Not sure if I am allowed to put the website on here, but if anyone is interested they can DM me. Thanks again everyone xxxx

Steve and i were both in tears when watching well ards last seen, at the same time tears running down our faces we both pointed to Arnies picture...... if that hadve been shown thursday..... well.............
well heres hoping Julia your tears will slow down and you will let the wonderful memories come through that Corey has left you with..... dont ever try to stop the tears, he was a lovely family member someone who will be missed greatly...... dont expect to feel much better a year down the line..... its so nice to talk with people who understand what your going through as we had friends who said 'he was just a dog' never!!!! like one of my kids is not 'just a kid'
take care Julia if you ever want to chat about him just dm me, always here to help xxxx

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and replies. I am feeling alot better, I think shock took over, but I am coming to terms with it a bit more now. Have to collect Corey's ashes a little later today, so will be emotional but we are going to plant and apple tree as hubby said we can then call it "Apple Cor Tree" (obviously we used to call him Cor for short) which we all smiled about and thought it a nice idea.
Thank you Liesa for being so understanding, I will probably take you up on a chat in a few days once everything has calmed down again.
    Best wishes to you all.
    Julia
