    First timer to Orlando

We are off to Orlando mid October for 2 weeks possibily not long enough. There are 4 Adults, 2 Teenagers aged 17 & 13 and 2 Children aged 10 & 8. The first week we are staying in Orlando and the second in Rotonda.

I have several questions but firstly, we have booked a 8 seater hire vehicle through Budjet from the airport. Do you think this will be big enough with all our luggage ?. And also we intend to do some shopping prior to booking into villa as we arrive several hours before we can book into the villa is it safe to leave luggage in the vehicle while we do this or can we leave luggage in a secure place ?.

Secondly how long will it take from Orlando to Rotonda, and any advise on the Rotonda area things to do good experiences please places to go. The second week we are looking for relaxing days trip ect.

With regard to the 8 Seater, no it won't! Whenever we have gone with a party of 8 we have gone for a minimum of a 12 Seater and even sometimes a 15 Seater! You don't get much room for luggage on the 8 seaters even though it says you should be able to get so many cases in them!
I would suggest leaving your luggage somewhere if you can although i would imagine it would be safe in the vehicle. Not sure after a 9 hour flight you would want to go shopping though!
I can't help on the last bit, sorry.

It is possible to book an 8 seater and then just book a taxi to take some of the luggage and a couple of passengers to your villa. This way you are not driving around in a huge 15 seater gas gobbler all the time. As the only time luggage is a problem is on the journey to and from the airport it can be a good option.

However, as you are going down to the coast that would not be an option.

    Hi.

    Just further to the points.

8 of us are also travelling in October (4 adults, 3 kids and a 4 month old). We have hired an 8 seater SUV through this site (should be a Ford Expedition). We know we won't get all our luggage in so have booked a limo as a surprise for all the kids and 2 adults. That way there will be only 3 of us in the expedition from the airport to the villa.

Now for a question...... Will the 8 seater SUV be big enough for day to day travelling? Baby's pushchair, towels, baby's bag etc...

    Thanks

Gary, in the past we have hired an 8 seater (Chevvy Astra) van for 4 adults and 3 kids aged 8-12. We did a lot of travelling around one year and managed to squash all our luggage and us in the van with no problem. It all depends on how many cases you have. We had 4 huge cases and a lot of smaller holdalls. We did find that the Chevvy Astra was one of the bigger vans with more boot space. The only problem with it was the way it was designed with a strange centre of gravity which caused it to sway back and fore a lot. We called it the bread van and had to be careful going around corners at speed. Great relability though and plenty of room in it. Dont know if they still do them (this was around 2000) but its worth checking. Gill
