A lot of USA debit cards have 'must show photo ID' printed on them. If it doesn't then mostly they will not bother. Although I was asked for ID when making a large purchase.<blockquote id="quote" class="ffs">quote:Originally posted by wrpac00

Wal-Mart always ask for photo ID if you are using a credit / debit card.
But you tend to find that this is more the case with CREDIT.

Although we've never been asked for the paper part and Diane as also used her NHS ID numerous times in there due to her having the old type UK License.

Bars generally stipulate that persons under 35 years of age can be asked for Photo ID and if ordering drinks for more than one person, you will need to have the Photo ID's of the others who are drinking too.

We've never had to use photo ID for travellers cheques in the past.
But there's always a first time.
I must have been to Walmart 20 times in the past 6 weeks and used my CC every time. Never been asked for ID once.
It usually depends on how much you spend.

If its over $100 then they generally ask for ID.

Which when Diane goes to WalMart, it is rare it is under that!
The last time she was quizzed and told in future to have a Driving License or Passport.

Maybe it depends who the Teller is!!

When I purchased the Nintendo Wii, I couldn't for the life of me remember the PIN number for our US card, the guy said it doesn't matter, tick credit instead of debit on the screen and it went through without it! Just used my DL ID.

Yes some USA cards say 'photo ID required' on them. If yours does not then that is why they do not ask for ID..

This is really interesting - have these rules been inforced recently?

The last time I was in Florida was last November and have never carried any form of ID - and I've obviously been very lucky as I've never once been asked for photo ID when using my CC.

I have had to show passport picture on each first visit to walmart for the past few years. Once has always been enough, subsequent visits to same shop have been ok then without showing again. This is using debit card, which of course is considered credit when you are in Florida
