    Taking food with you?

I am confused about the rules regarding taking food into the states. Can take in vacuum packed gluten free bread rolls and pre packaged gluten free biscuits? I found some old threads that say you can but I just want to check that the rules haven't changed. Presumably need to put that in the suitcase if I can? Also can I take snacks with me, for her, to take on the plane (just in case GF meal ordered isn't there as has happened in the past!)

    Hi,

We take many prescription low protein foods with us (medical necessity), and a letter from specialist dietician detailing exactly what we are carrying (foods and meds) and why.

The only time we had our cases opened was in 2002 (after foot & mouth outbreak); they were not at all concerned as we weren't carrying meat or fruit/veg.

We have taken in gluten free bread, rolls and cakes (tesco free from range) without any problems. You will be fine with them in you suitcase or hand luggage, The only restrictions are on meat, dairy, veg and fruit.

I think Publix also do a range of GF foods. They are getting more popular now and easier to find but no probs taking a supply in your case.

Every time we go we take cereal, baked beans, teabags, lots of bottles of squash. No problem at all. The squash must be in the suitcases though as it is liquid and can not go in hand luggage. I have always admitted to having the food if questioned and have had no problems.

Thanks everyone. I only want to take enough for the flight and a couple of days until we buy some more but it's great to know I can. Especially at the mo as I think she's having a bit of a growth spurt!
