    Continental flight

Hi, we are flying on a direct flight from Edinburgh to Orlando with Continental, however, the flight does touchdown at Newark for 90 mins. I must stress that it says on continentals website that we do not change planes. Can anyone tell us if we get off the plane at Newark and go through customs, collect our luggage then put it back on or do we have to stay on the plane and do the customs thing at Mco.

    Thanks in advance. Davie

You will have to do exactly what you have put in your posting, as the first point of entry to the US will be Newark so you need to go through immigration etc.

90 mins might well be pushing it to get through immigration and collect luggage and transer.

We regularly take the bristol-newark-orlando route and have barely done it with 1hr 15mins and that was sprinting all the way. We now leave at least 2 hours in between

We have cleared customs at NEWARK but it took longer than 90 mins but it was no trouble the Americans are good at this .

Yep I thought this also. [msncry] As we on to previous occasions have had to go through customs.

Newark isn't to bad though as you don't have to far to walk to the conecting flight. You should be fine with 90mins.

Don't believe all you read, if as we have done and have to get to gate 93 at Newark for the second flight then that is some distance from security. I am still trying to sort out an issue with Continental that is leaving me wit 65 minutes turnaround at Newark which I know I will not be able to achieve.

The big hold ups are Immigration, Luggage collection and Security - you may be lucky with all three, you may not.

Try not to get stressed out. If you do not make it to your connection - it is highly likely you just will - then Continental will sort out a later flight to Orlando as they do have other flights.

    Have a good trip.

Yes don't believe everything that you read.

Sometimes there can be hold ups that may put the pressure on getting to your connecting flights like large immigration queue's etc.

Unfortunatley its the bad experiences that seem to get mentioned far far more than the connections which run smoothly.

Fortunatly we have always managed our connecting flying through Newark with time to spare.

Flights to Orlando from Newark are very frequent so chill. [msncool]

We just done the exact same flight as you last month - Edinburgh to Orlando. Both initial flights were about 30 minutes late, and its the first one that will give you problems as you have to go through security again once you check your bags back in.They do have an express queue for ist class etc and I did notice one or two people in a hurry allowed to use this when they explained they were late.
Coming back is a lot easier as you don't see your cases again in Newark and you don't have to go through security again which saves a lot of time.
If you are lucky you will get one of their newer planes which we got on both return flights. They have a great entertainment system on the back of the seats. 25 or so films to choose from and a gambling setup which you can play with other passengers.
