US Airways Baggage Policies

I recently booked some flights on US Airways from MUC via PHL to MCO for a decent price. However I notice that they are now charging passengers for even their first checked bag (for flights booked after July 9th 2008). Fortunately I booked before 9th July

Although it states that passengers from Europe are exempt, I wonder how they will treat people travelling on an indirect two-leg flight where the second leg is wholly within the US (such as myself and Albear have planned)?

I don't know if any other airlines have started doing this, or whether it is the start of a trend which will extend to all flights, but I just thought I'd mention it.

Jet blue charges for a second bag..i would not take a case if they charged for a first i travel to FL so often it would be cheaper to buy clothes and leave them there...

What is the point in getting a cheap fight..if they just add costs on...

I'm fairly certain you won't be charged for hold bags on the domestic leg because it's part of an international itinerary. Jet Blue charge but they are purely a domestic carrier.

But not if the flight is part of an international itinerary.

As you had already mentioned the domestic leg of an indirect flight is part of an international journey I did not think that needed repeating, therefore, my comment was intended for those who are already in the states and decide to book a completely internal domestic flight.

Thanks Blott. I do find this blanket policy very restrictive sometimes. People are often just trying to help others by pointing them at some useful information, and the wholesale blocking of such links just because somewhere on the website they advertise villas or car hire I think is wrong.

The very nature of this website means most threads revolve around travel, holidays, accommodation, car hire etc, and so it's to be expected that sometimes links will be posted that also involve these, but that doesn't reduce the usefulness of such links to others. I don't believe that anyone following my link to an airline baggage policy would end up renting a villa through the website but even if they did, so what? The link was still useful and relevant to the topic.

Perhaps the owners of this website could consider changing the policy in future? I think it would strengthen the usefulness of the site, not weaken it.
