Oh yes they are about. I have a lovely ring of bites just above my ankles. I was outside the villa the first week we were here just watching the lightning shoot across the sky and I kept getting buzzed by them and looked down to see one feasting on my hand. I do a bit of fishing and always spray before I go out.

We've just come back and not a single bite for anyone in the group, even after spending a hour and half on an airboat on St John's river during the evening.

    Hi,

Been out in Florida for the last two weeks and not had one single "mossie bite" This is somebody who was eaten alive in Portugal last year with 30+ bites. Was on an Air Boat Ride to-day (28 Aug) and did use some insect repellent spray prior to the trip. However, once again no mossie bites. Two days to go and may escape free on this trip!!

    Hi

Please can anyone tell me if there are any mosquitos around at this time of year? Only 7 days to go!

Will probably go and have an airboat ride so was expecting some there.

    Any replies would be helpful.

    Thanks.
[msnsmile2][/quote]This is one of those topics that always seems to split people, some get bitten alive in florida, some never see any mosquitos anywhere.

As I understand it, mosquitoes thrive in warm humid environments where this is lots of stagnant water.... given that Florida is cold, dry and there aren't any lakes or swamps anywhere, I would think you will be fine[msnwink].

But, just in case you come across any lakes or swamps and the weather should change to be hot and humid, I would take precautions and put some insect repellent on anyway. After all, if this happens it will be the perfect conditions for Mozzies to thrive

I think the most responsible approach is to tell people to take sensible precautions.

I stupidly played golf one afternoon/evening wearing shorts. I was eaten alive from the knees down. Although it was not really too painful when they were feasting upon me, it was very sore and extremely unsightly for the remainder of the holiday and for some time after we got back to the UK.

Never again. Full length trousers for me from now on.
