    Booking Car Hire

    Hi

Can anyone tell me how far in advance to book car hire, bearing in mind I have a year before we go, so plenty of time i know, but just wondered if I could leave it till a few months before departure date?
Also I have one of the old style driving licences - do I need to update it to one with a photo on it?
    Thanks
    Lee

The following car types can be booked right up to the last minute:

Economy, Compact, Intermediate, Full Size, Premium, Luxury, Convertible, 7 seater Minivan, Standard SUV

The others we suggest up to around a week before you travel as the latest unless peak time (July / Aug and Easter / Christmas) then we recommend booking as far in advance as possible.

The old style license is fine.

Thanks Roger - Also what would you recomend bearing in mind safety, economy for a family of four with a good bit of luggage to hire. I like the look of the Chrysler 300 with Dollar atm but wondered if a Standard SUV/4x4 would be better.
    Thanks

I would put this down to personal choice, as both cars should be more or less as safe as each other, and the fuel economy wont vary too much either.

If you book your car now with www.uscarhire.co.uk it will only cost you £25 deposit. You are then guaranteed no price rises, which could be a great saving. I would certainly book the car as soon as you can as it is fully covered in case of cancellation. You won't get a better deal.[8D]

We love the Chrysler 300. Its a fab car, very roomy and comfortable. The Dodge Magnum is great, too, and has an estate type boot with masses of room for luggage.

Thank You people, always a great sensible response. Any more are welcome. My arm is being twisted towards the Chrysler 300 as my sons keep hounding me to go for one of these! Im trying to keep a level head and be sensible - but kids - hey what do we know lol!!

    Thanks again

Chrysler 300 is a nice car to drive, plenty of room. SUV has a better viewing position being higher up. Both have advantages.

We have had SUVs but decided to go for the Chrysler 300 on our last vist and it was a great car! Lots of room and very comfortable. The only downside with the SUVs we've had in the past is the back storage space is open to prying eyes!! Unlike a car where you have a boot and everything is shut away, the SUV is all exposed! The windows are tinted on most but you can still see in! Some have a small storgae compartment but this is only around the size of a spare wheel! This really put us off having one this time round... although great fun to drive!

We're just about to book another "Luxury" for our trip next year[msnsmile]
