Each to their own Emma but I would consider not having a convertable for August. The heat and humidity this time of year make the car a joy to sit in with the aircon on full blast. The thought of having the top down and still feeling that heat is not for me [msnwink]

The best chance of a Sebring is with Dollar, however they also supply the occasional PT Cruiser and Beetle.

The best chance of a Mustang is Budget and it's rare to get anything else.

    Hi

Each to their own, as they say. Whilst I do not want to criticise your choice, just a couple of things to be aware of.

Firstly, convertibles generally have very limited boot space. Each time we collect our car at the airport, we are amazed at the families/groups trying to squeeze 4 or more suitcases into the boot. Usually the poor passengers in the rear seats end up with a 20kg suitcase each on their laps.

Secondly, August is prime time for sudden, torrential downpours. Again, we have seen many convertibles pulled over (where possible) trying to get the roof closed before they get soaked!

Having said all that, I'm sure it would be great fun to drive one. Perhaps just not in August.

We have a convertible in August - I think we've done this for the past 4 years. However we do go for over 3 weeks and have a larger car at the beginning and the end for getting luggage to/from the airport. We weren't going to do it this year (takes time changing the cars) but our daughter's wanted to keep up the 'tradition'! We've had Sebrings and Mustangs and our favourite is the Mustang. Yes you get get some liquid sunshine - often for a short time in an afternoon in August but we have fun... and that's why we love Florida. [8D]

We hired 2 convertibles with Dollar in June this year one for us and one for our son. He got a Mustang and we got a Sebring. We have been renting convertibles now for a number of years and have only once been offered a PT Cruiser hubby went back and told them we didn't want that and they changed it to a Sebring.

Thanks for some great advice guys. I am aware of the weather conditions in August, high humidity and frequent heavy showers/thunder storms. However when you make a promise to your son you just gotta keep it, hes so excited!. Besides convertibles still have roofs/hoods and air con, if we get a little wet what does it matter, adds to the fun and excitment and thats why we are going to Florida.

We will just keep our fingers crossed that we get a Sebring or a Mustang, sounds like we may have a good chance this time of year!!

We hired a convertible with Dollar last November, wonderful especially in the slightly cooler months, but I would always prefrably rent a convertible from now on irrespective of the time of year come rain or shine.
We were allocated a silver sebring just perfect.
Enjoy they are a dream to drive.

I have a twin top here in the UK and love it. (Even though we don;t always have the best weather for it)

We've rented a Sebring in Florida when Diane and myself went on our own.

Very popular car and nice to drive.

Wish we had the choice of the Mustang! Love them!

    Go for it and enjoy!
