    booking my first fly-drive

    Hi
We are going to Florida November 2009 from 25th onwards for 14 nights and are flexible with those dates.

Virgin are the only prices out yet and they are expensive £2039 for 3 adults 1 child car and insurance.
When i was looking last year for a guide the same dates it was at least £500 cheaper. I dont expect to get the prices from last year but the fuel and tax charge alone is £789.20[msnoo]
I have rang Virgin and the link from here and both have given me the same price and i was told to book now as these prices will just keep going up an up? what would you say do i book at that price or hold out for the other airlines to bring out their prices in October?
    Thanks Ali

Ali, I would wait a bit longer and would only book flights and not a fly-drive. Check out the prices on the car-hire link above, it's who we always use and most of our guests do too.

You will probably find that it will work out cheaper for the bigger car booking it from here as the flydrive price will not include all the insurances that they add on when collecting your car.

I would wait until companies release their flight only pirces around December this year.
You won't beat the car hire prices from this site as you have already seen. virgin fly drive prices work out very expensive due to the price of the insurance for their cars.
Also end of November will not be too busy as this is not a time when people ten dto take children, I know that at present for this year there are Virgin and Ba flights going for under £400 for these dates.
Best thing is to sort out your villa, start looking now and you have a better chance of securing exactly what you want. Also many of the villa owners, like myself, are gauranteeing no price increases once the initial deposit has been paid.

You are very welcome Ali, glad to help. The car-hire customer service is also superb should you need to make any changes to your booking.

We usually fly out for Thanksgiving or just after and we picked up our flights for £329 for this Nov with Virgin from Manchester.
Keep your eyes on the website about 11 months berfore the dates you wish to fly back from Florida.

It is always hard to say, but I would probably wait to book. This is not a peak time for the airlines, so seats fill up much nearer the the time and if you can be flexible by a day or two, you are likely to get much better fares in the sales. In the mean time, I would book a villa, most owners will stay flexible by a day or two as long as they don't have a consecutive booking

    Thanks everyone,

I think i will wait, i just want something booked, i have already booked the villa this was booked last year through a friend.
When i went last Sept 06 i did book the SAT NAV from here, we wont be needing that this time.

Lynne- You went last year the same time as we want to go, how was the weather? also when did you book the flights for that holiday can you remember?
We might be going on th 25th of Nov or 30th after the thanksgiving holiday depends on the flights we book.

    Hi Ali,

We had great weather last year, at the very end of November, hopefully we get the same again this year.

We booked our flights for Nov 07 quite late, because we had a gap in bookings for our home. we got a good price for those too.

We booked early this year for our flights for November 08, because we wanted to go for Thanksgiving and the week prior to it.
When you see a price you are all happy with, go for it I know with Virgin, it's cheaper to go and come back during the week.

I've been going to Florida in late November for many years and usually have good weather. Just bear in mind that it it takes a while to warm up first thing in the morning (up to about 10.30 am) and it goes dark just after 5.00pm.
