Hi, can anyone tell me if it would be worth waiting till we go over to orlando in November to buy an ipod touch or are they the same price as in the UK(price fixed)

They are all sold the same price so shopping around won't really make a difference.
If you look at Apple's online US store you can see the current prices for them.
You'll have to pay duty on it if you bring it back into the UK and it's over your allowances (it's likely to be) so it may be as cheap, if not cheaper to just buy it in the UK.
O.K thanks for your quick response, just compared the US price on line with UKs, US was cheaper by £60 !!!![msnmad] not on really as it is the same player, will we have to pay duty[msnwink].

If you were going in Dec you may not as the duty allowance is going up to €430 (may be €410) in early December, just in time for my trip

We have bought most of our Ipods direct from Apple as they from time to time have clearance offers on their web site. These items are what they call factory refurbished items but the ones we have bought come in a box look brand new and have a 12 month warranty. We bought a Ipod touch in March for £130

If its for your own use and not a gift. Buy it in the US destroy the box and post all the instructions etc back to the UK. Customs won't know the difference!

You would be surprised how accurately sometimes the powers that be can determine when an item was bought from the serial numbers etc.
I dont think anybody should be given the advice from here or anywhere how to "get round the law" in the same way we always advice people however much they dislike it that Visa regulations should be adhered to not giving them advice on how they may get away with things.

Totally agree. We'd never advise someone to break the law no matter how well intentioned.

Lets also have a reality check. Whilst not condoning breaking the law, I've yet to ever see a queue of UK tourists standing in the "Items to Declare" aisle on their return from the states because they've spent over their £145 allowance. UK customs have much better things to do than worry about someone buying an ipod or not.
Dynomike - if you're will to wait until November, Apple will no doubt have released an updated model again by then. Remember to add on local sales tax (6 or 7%) when comparing the US price to UK prices.
That may be true but we have certain responsibilities when running and hosting a forum such as this and hosting posts that encourage people to potentially break the law is not something that sits well with this.
