What can you take on board?

Just got our e tickets from charter travel for our virgin flight, and enclosed with these was a inportant security notice saying that certian items were strictly forbidden such as :

drinks, liquid cosmetics such as toothpaste and lip balm.

I was under teh impression that such items as long as they didn't exceed the 100ml limit and were in a clear plastic bag at security were allowed plus i thought you could buy as much drinks and cans etc. in departures as you liked adn take them on board.

    can someone please clarify this?

"drinks, liquid cosmetics such as toothpaste and lip balm."

The information you have been given is out of date, read up on the virgin website regarding what you can and can't take on board. You are on the right lines in your post Gillian

Do you have to show receipts to prove you bought drinks in the departure lounge or will they assume any bought prior to going through security would have been confiscated? I'm not good with receipts!

You cannot take drinks through to the departure lounge, they will be confiscated. You can then buy as many as you want.

So once you are in the departure lounge and you then buy them there, it's fine. No need to keep receipts.

Yes, that's correct Euan. I always take water on the flight with me and I don't keep the reciept.
