Question about booking 8-seater with Budget

    Hi

I'm about to book an 8-seater van with Budget. When I click to purchase, the van changes to "8-seater luxury SUV" -- I assume this is a free upgrade? If so, do you know what make/model this is likely to be?

Also, is it possible to change the insured drivers part way through the rent? The reason I ask is that there are 8 of us going, all age 20-21. The four 21 year olds among us would like to share the driving but the cost of insuring all four for the whole two weeks will be quite expensive. We'd like to insure two of us for the first week and the other two for the second week -- possible?

    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Rob,

    Welcome to the forum!

The 8 seater SUV from Budget is not an upgrade, but it is their regular 8 seater option. It is a Ford Expedition (or something like that), and it is really nice. We had it last year, and suited our needs really well. You might struggle to get all 8 people and all of their luggage into it, though. Are you staying far from the airport? If not, then you could do two runs to your accommodation to get everyone there.

This is the Expedition with two of the three rear seats folded down, and there is plenty of room for luggage, but if those two seat were put up, then there is not an awful lot of space.

I can't really help you with your insurance question, but I'm sure Roger will be along shortly.

    I hope this helps.

With our Young Driver Package with Budget, this allows 1 driver age 21-24 (and unlimited age 25+ drivers). This is £50 per week / £10 per day. Additional age 21-24 drivers will have to each pay approx $20 per day on collection of the car.

    Thanks Nuala. Looks really nice

I don't think the luggage issue will be a problem as we're only about 30 mins from the airport. My worry is more about leg room. Most of us are around 6'. Are the back seats going to be really cramped?

    Cheers
    Rob

Thanks Roger. So could I change the YDP driver after one week?

It's unlikely Budget will allow this (in fact I'm almost certain they won't). If after a week you add another age 21-24 driver, they will have to pay the regular surcharge, even if the original lead driver does not drive after that time.

Okay. So I suppose we would have to make two bookings of a week, each with a different driver. Then we'd have to go back to the rental place after a week and swap the car. Seems a bit backward but if that's what we have to do I suppose we can manage it!

    Thanks

Yes, that would work. On the ositive side, at least you get another free tank of fuel half way through your trip.

    Thanks

Just one more question - I thought it was $25 a day surcharge. I can't find where I read this now but can you confirm if it's $20 or $25 and does that include tax?

The rate varies across suppliers. With Budget is it currently $20 per day, but by the time you add tax, it's more like $25 per day.
