Help this is driving me mad!

Im going mad with trying to work out car hire for 8 of us arriving in Orlando in July.

We were considering a 7 seater and a compact car for 18 days but as this works out at over £700 Im looking to reduce costs.

I read lots of posts on here about the 8 seater premium suv which sounds appealing. (I've heard that 8 seater dodge ram are likes tanks and not very comfy)

So my question is: Can we get from airport in one car, 5 ad, 3 ch and luggage? Dont mind putting luggage on lap for this journey?

As 2 of adults may want to go off for the odd day (most of hol we will be together) is it most cost effective to hire a car locally for the odd day here and there?

As I see it the advantage to having a car that we can all fit in is not paying double petrol and parking (at parks) when we all go together.

    What do you all think?

    Thanks for any replies

    Jo

I can't help with the costs and I'm sure Roger will be along soon to help with that side of things. Definately go throught this site, we don't bother looking anywhere else for cars or tickets anymore as you can't get better price or service. As for the 8 seater if you're going to the parks together it's fefinately worth going in 1 car as otherwise you're looking at around $20 a day for parking. On the days that the 2 want to go somewhere on their own a lot depends on what everyone else is wanting to do. If you want to go to a park could they not drop you off and either pick you up or taxi back? HAve a great trip

I would also guess that you would be breaking the law even if you disregard the safety aspect of having that number of un-belted passengers in your car.

I don't think they would be breaking the law in an 8 seater vehicle? We usually hire the 7 seater version and there is usually lots of room for luggage. Granted on the way to and from the airport there are cases at peoples feet but usually under the kids seats and their feet don't reach the ground anyway.

As for costs i really don't know what the difference would be. it does make sense to have one car to the parks - I think you are right about that. Parking can be expensive - i think the Disney parks are $11 a day now ( or maybe more I'm not sure).

If you have a second person that can drive, an option a lot of people choose is an additional car just for the 2 airport trips. For £25 for a day, including a tank of fuel, you can hire a car from the airport and drop it back at a local depot to your accommodation, and then vice versa at the end of your stay.

Yes thats just what I was thinking about! All 5 adults are drivers but probably only 3 will want to! Thanks Roger I think thats the solution.

When you said CAR I took it to mean CAR not mini-van or people carrier. If you had one of those then it would be OK.

I had visions of you trying to fit 5A and 3C into a car. Just seen a police stop on the TV with 7 people in an Escort.

Yes Dave that would be highly illegal! By saying car I just meant a vehicle.

    Thanks for all your help

I wouldn't even want to try 7 people in an Escort! How on earth did they manage it Dave?! I will never understand how some peoples minds work!
