Thread: flight prices

  1. #11
    £3000 seems a fortune!

I would guess that to travel on 3rd October is not exactly peak time, however I'm not too sure of Scotland's mid term breaks, but if you were prepared to wait, you would get a significantly better rate. In my experience, the charter flights into Sanford can be a bit over-priced if you want to book in advance. It very much depends on whether your dates are going to be within a week of the school holidays in Scotland? It not, then it may be worth your while to wait.

Personally, I wouldn't pay £3000 for 2 adults and 2 children in October. Thats the price I have been looking at for 4 adults and 1 child in August!

It might be cheaper to go via London than direct out of Glasgow. We did this a few years ago and the short hop to london was included in the price (around £30 on top of the fare from London). if this fails book return from london and then hop down on easyjet etc.

I would also look at the charter airlines or flying indirect. You should be able to get all the prices for Oct now. Strange you can't.

We are flying with Delta from Edinburgh in June. Cost was £1800 for My wife and I and 2 daughters aged 14 and 2. One stop over in New York for 2 hours. We thought it would be good to get the wee one off the plane for a run around. May be worth investigating for October if you can cope with a stop-over. All the best.

Try Edinburgh with Continental. We got flights in June/July for less than £500 but you would have to change at either Newark or Philadelphia, which is no problem if its saving you a lot of £££.

I am off in September and booked with virgin from manchester for £418 each. looked this morning and they have gone up to £517 each. So I suspect you have to be lucky and get them on a good day.

    Hiya

Unsure if you are still looking at Oct but we are the same. Hoping to go out of Glasgow or Edinburgh on 24/10 for 21 days, the best price I can finmd with one stop is 580.00 per person with Continental Edinburgh to New York to Orlando (just myself and other half going this time) I don't think we can afford to go at those prices either....two years ago we were 320.00, Glasgow to Gatwick to Orlando with BA!

I'm usually able to find a decent fare for the October/November period but this year I'm stunned by the by the prices being asked. I reckon that I'm looking at an increase of over 50% for my usual flights.

If these levels stick I'll have to review my plans.

I know I prob shouldn't say this as this is a villa forum but if we have to pay such a high price for flights there is less chance that we can take a villa as we will have less money to spend on that. This fuel increase cannot just be hitting us in the pcoket...what about the villa owners too.
Even if we leave it to last minute to book (say 2-3 days before) we have no guarantee that we can then have time to book up a villa and sort that before we travel [msnsad]
