    Florida Residential ID

    Hi all,
I have recently been making enqiries about getting Florida residential ID, Or Florida ID. Could I apply for a Florida drivers ID
All I know is I need to take a utility bill.
We are making plans to move to Orlando in about 2 years.
I work for a Global company, so transfering to our Orlando unit shouldnt be too much of a problem, and is probably the easiest optin.
Does anyone know more about the ID

    Thanks
    Oscar

The Florida residents and driving licence are one and the same ID card, just that one contains your driving record in addition.

At the moment, you can apply for a residents ID if you have a Florida home. This will be valid until your visa expires, ie 90 days if you entered USA on a visa waiver. You need proof of address of your Florida home and your passport.

The driving licence part is a bit more complicated. You would need to arrange a driving test and, if you pass, you will be issued with a Florida driving licence. This will be mailed to your Florida address within 30 days and is also valid for the length of your current visa, ie 90 days if you entered on a visa waiver. When you return to Florida, you pay a fee and renew your licence. Again, this is mailed to you within 30 days and lasts the length of your current visa.

In the last few weeks, it's been reported that there may be a new ruling about applying for a driving licence which precludes non-residents applying for a driving licence. So the rules on applying for a residents ID may also have changed. Whether this is so or not, I'm not clear.

For transferring to Florida to live, if your company is willing to do this, then they need to apply for a visa on your behalf. Neither a residents ID nor driving licence give you any rights to stay in Florida in order to work there as this is solely judged on your visa.

The reason I ask about the ID is doesnt it allow you to have discount at the theme parks.
I did hear that they have now changed this and if you take a utility bill to the gate you can receive the same discount.
Yes my company will sort out the visa........I think its an L1, or something like that. I will have to check my papers.

Is the bit about the utility bill correct

    Thanks

Yes, it should be wherever a discount is offered for residents.

    Hi Oscar

We have always managed to get resident discounts at the Parks, just by producing a utility bill, so you should be fine until you get transferred by your company.

You can get the discounts by producing a utility bill that clearly shows your name and Florida address. You will also need photo ID - a UK driving licence or passport works well for this.

You will need to do this for each adult claiming the discounts.

We went to the Town Hall in Kissimmee for ours. There's parking at the rear and the entrance is along the side.
