Commuting from Davenport to Theme Parks

    Hi,

We are a group of 9 people planning to be in Orlando for a week in the middle of may. We have rented a villa in Davenport. While in Orlando we plan to visit Disney and Universal Parks. There is only 1
driver in our group and he has a limitation on his drivers license
that he cannot drive a car with more than 9 seats. Since there is no 9 seater available and we are renting a 8 seater. Here is the problem ... from what I have been told it is illegal for 9 people to be riding in a 8 seater and incase something happens insurance won't cover it. What is the best option for a couple of people from the group to go from Orlando International Airport to Davenport and from Davenport to Disney and Universal theme parks.

Any advice/guidance you can provide will be much appreciated.

    Thanks much,

    SD

The cheapest option is for the driver to make two trips each time. To and from the airport will be your longest journey.

The other option is to get a taxi whenever you all want to go out and some use the taxi while some go in the car.

If you go with the cheapest option, remember to be very, very nice to the driver! Spoil him whenever you can!![msnsmile2][msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

Don't ever be tempted to overload the car.

9 people with only one driver, that is going to become pretty tough let alone very expensive for the time that you are in Orlando.

You can do it, There are plenty of taxi services that will take you to and from the airport and shuttle between parks and home etc. But it does not come cheap.

with no other driver options, its pretty much a work holiday for the driver then.

I'm not so sure, if the driver has a UK licence, that the restriction on the number of seats is as relevant in the US as it would be in the UK so it may not be a problem. However perhaps Roger could confirm or deny that?

The license is from India but we have to assume that the restrictions would be valid here. Can someone please tell me how far are the Disney Parks (Magic Kingdom, MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom), Universal Studios (Wet n Wild) from Davenport in terms of miles and minutes.

    Thanks much,

Hi SD, Davenport covers a huge area, so it would help if you could tell us exactly where the villa you're staying in is. Just the name of the sub division will do.

You'll need to allow arround 15 Minutes to get to Disney, extra 5 for Animal Kingdom or Epcot. Universal/Sea World would be arround 30 minutes. These times are averaged if you go at a busy time they can take longer. These times are to get to the park gate.

Have you considered how you'd get your suitecases to/from the vila, it is unlikly a 9 seater would take 9 people plus 9 peoples suitecases![msneek]

I've asked Dollar the question. I have a feeling the restriction only applies in the local county of origin so may well be OK in Florida despite the restriction.

Dollar confirm as long as your license is printed in the English language then you can drive a 12 seater in Florida even if in India you are limited to a 9 seater.
