Flight prices have increased dramatically since 2006 & now so many schools are giving a 2 week break in October.

I would shop around over the next week or so & see what happens as others have said prices could come down, they could also go up, not much help I know. BA for one have lots of bridges to mend over the debacle in T5 so you could see reductions on their prices in the coming weeks.

US airways is another airline which flies into Tampa via Charlotte so could be a good route. Alternately try Aer Lingus out of Dublin into Orlando. We got really good prices with Expedia into MCO for May/June so they could be worth a shot. Slightly longer drive to the Gulf coast but as the flights land earlier you get to the villa around the same time as flying into Tampa as the BA flight lands about 5pm.

Good luck with the search.

Hi all, thanks for all replies so far.

I have found some flights on a search website but it is a US website and is quoting in US dollars, has anyone ever booked flights in this way and can it work out more expensive?

Thanks
Pamela

Pam you may find that they will not accept a credit card outside the US. But you could always try, another thing to consider is how much your credit card will charge you for the change in currency, this will depend on a fee for changing as the exchange rate they will use.

It is always a very hard question to answer and really boils down to what you want to pay and what you think is good value.

If you don't mind flying indirect (I am going with Continantal via New York) and it is £200 per person cheaper. Yes it is not direct, but it saves me £600 in total (this is for Sept).

The cheaper carriers (Flyglobespan, thomson etc) will increase prices as the seats are sold. So they are best booked early.

We have flown out Oct the last two years , last year we booked and paid aprox 3 months/July before flying out direct with virgin and as soon as we saw price decrease, prices went down from over £500 to £329 per adult, we booked for 10 of us no problems

We went with Flyglobespan in October 2007 at the cost of £514 for a direct flight from Glasgow. This year for the same two weeks in October with Flyglobespan it would cost us £984.(both prices are flight only)

We are planning to go back to Florida in October 2009 and have just managed to book our flights from glasgow direct with thomas cook for £680 including extra luggage. Since booking them 2 weeks ago they have gone up to £741. (again flight only)

PS We hvae been to Florida 7 times but still find lots of great information and advice on this website - thanks [high5]

I think you can expect airfares to increase over the coming months, driven by the recent spikes in the prices of crude oil. Most airlines are practising policies of fuel price hedging these days, but that doesn't mean they won't pass up an opportunity to slap a few more dollars on each ticket.

Edit: From our daily industry briefing...

Delta Air Lines and its merger partner, Northwest Airlines, on Wednesday joined the list of US carriers to report quarterly losses amid record fuel costs. An unrelenting surge in oil prices, which have neared $120 a barrel, has wiped out profits and pressed carriers to scramble for ways to trim additional costs, from shrinking their flight schedules and retiring less fuel-efficient aircraft to job cuts. Investors’ concerns for the industry’s future peaked on Tuesday, when United Airlines’ wider-than-expected loss touched off steep declines on US airlines’ stocks…FT
>> Southwest Air CEO: Fuel Costs Pressure Airlines To Hike Fares (24 Apr 2008)

Rising fuel costs put major pressure on the strapped airline industry to increase fares, Southwest Airlines (LUV) Chief Executive Gary Kelly said Wednesday. Kelly spoke at a breakfast hosted by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. Kelly said it appears that every airline, except Southwest, will report a loss in the first quarter this year. That means costs will either have to go down or fares will rise - though costs already have been reduced industry-wide, he said...WSJ[/quote]

Thanks all.
I have noticed a slight decrease since posting this and flights have appeared that were not there before. I will keep a close eye and see how things go.....nothing will stop us going though, just means more to spend when we are there!

Hi Pamela

BA have a sale on - for dates until end of Oct 08 - but I think it finishes soon and prices are not toooo bad at all only about £50 more than we paid last year - Virgin were a little cheaper by a few £'s.
