........if you won £1000 but the condition was it had to be on yourself and you had to have something physical to show for it in years to come (so no holidays, outings etc).

It depends really on what I already had. If I didnt have them then first would be a camcorder I think. I have been transferring from video to dvd some of the films we have taken over the years and it's been lovely to remember some of the expressions etc that photos alone can't convey and also some of the people no longer with us.
As I like crafting there are many things that I could buy that are not essential like a new computerised sewing machine.
Although I like jewellry I wouldnt put it top of the list.
My family would probably say plastic surgery would be an advantage to the rest of the world, but I'm afraid I'm a wysiwyg type of person, not about to undergo any unnecessary surgery when I have to look in the mirror to even see the results.
We would put to a cruise from Miami and put the rest of the money to have a good time .

Ah but CDV said you weren't allowed holidays etc as you have to have something tangible to show for it.

For me £1000 would not get you very much these days, a diamond or jewellry that I have bought has cost more than £1000 so that is out of the question.
So I would make the thousand pounds work for me, I would invest it in premium bonds, and in many years to come I may well have had more money of it to buy things, but I would also still have the thousand pounds in years to come as well. and in my name.
