Dont know when this was from but thought you might like to see.


This picture was taken by a Lifeflight helicopter flying over Lake Istapoka, (For those of you who are not local, Lake Istapoka is near Sebring, Fl.)

That has to be a HUGE gator to have a whole deer in its mouth!

The alligator was found between Lake
Istapoka and Pinedale estates... near a house ,
Game Wardens were forced to shoot the alligator- guess he wouldn't cooperate.

Jayne and Don Hobkirk could hear the bellowing in the night.

Their neighbors had been telling them that they had seen a mammoth alligator in the Lake that runs behind their house,but they dismissed the stories as being exaggerations.

"I didn't believe it," Don Hobkirk said.

Friday they realized the stories were, if anything, understated.

Florida Game and Parks game wardens had to shoot the beast...

Joe Goff, 6' 5" tall, a game warden with the Florida Game and Parks Commission, walks past the 23-foot, one inch alligator that he shot and killed in the back yard of Jayne & Don Hobkirk...

It is such a shame that this magnificent beast had to be shot, it would have been so much better if he could have been relocated to deep in the Glades out of harms way.

It is such a rare, rare occurrence to see one so big close to built up areas, they usually keep out of the way.

I would say he had lived in the lake without bothering anyone for a number of years & something, no doubt a female, drew him out of his habitat, the lake which had been his home.

Very sad.

Oh dear, turns out the last beast was actually caught in Texas and it turned into a sort of urban myth it was caught in Florida.

Remarkable creature though.

When I read the title I thought - 7 ducks and lots of fish.....then I opened the thread and .. wow, huge gator! So sad he had to be shot though, shame he could not have been relocated out of harms way.

Once gators reach 6ft they apparently cannot be relocated as they will just keep coming back to where they lived (so I saw on a wildlife programme).
