Luggage size restrictions - Virgin?

Just read the virgin website and it gives you the maximum dimensions of each suitcae to be no more than 152cm (width plus height plus depth)
We have just bought new Samsonite cases which are 83cm and very big and when i added the 3 sizes together came to 158cm!

Anyone else had this concern? Surely Samsonite wouldn't produce a case that was too big for the plane?

Dont forget though cases are made for other forms of travel than flying. I think it all has to do with the weight and the baggage staff not getting injuries lifting heavy cases.

I doubt that you will have problems if you stay within the weight limit. They don't have tape measures on check in!

I was curious on this for my golf club travel cover which also exceeds the overall sizes by aroun 5cm

However its very very difficult to find a golf travel cover that will not exceed the dimensions

But never had a problem so far, just drop the clubs at oversize baggage

I imagine that that restriction is in place as a guideline to avoid individuals turning up with extremely unusual sized items

Although those that do that are probably not even aware of the restriction

I think there main concern will always be the weight of an item

In all the times I have flown I have never EVER been asked about the size of our huge Samsonite suitcase.

They have always been more concerend with the weight. When fully packed it can weigh a tonne.!!!
