    spending money

    hello everyone

    just a quick question please

    travellers cheques[msnsad]
    cash [msnsmile2]
    visa[msnsmile2]

thinking to take some dollars (cash ) then to use our visa card for groceries or whatever ,we always find you get a better exchange rate on the visa card when it comes to paying it (well that's true in our experience with canada ) but also, not carrying round too much cash

any thoughts on this , what do you do ??
    thank you very much
    sharon

    Hi
I have just read your posts, and I am a bit worried.[msnscared]
Last time we went to Orlando (2 years ago) Travellers cheques were widely accepted, just like cash in most places, we paid for our park tickets, food and shopping with travellers cheques.
We are going to Orlando in May and we have all got most of our money in travellers cheques !
Will we have a problem changing them ?
Last year we stayed in Miami post cruise, travellers cheques were accepted in most big stores like Walmart, and shopping malls.

If using a credit card would suggest you get a Nationwide Account as they seem to offer the best rates.

Travellers cheques are still being accepted, I saw them being accepted in Wal Mart in February 2008

You shouldn't have a problem with travellers cheques but most people I know who travel to Florida don't bother with them any more.

We use cash and credit card. When you get you cash ask for some $1 bills, otherwise when you first arrive you dont have any change for tipping.

Ellie, Please do not worry as most places do still accept dollar travellers cheques but you may need to show id such as your passport.

I've been to a couple of gas stations that don't take TC's so i always carry plenty of cash -the majority of our money is in TC's and take about $500 cash and a credit card for emergencies. We use the TC's whilst shopping and meals out and the change keeps the cash topped up for the smaller purchases like ice creams/sodas!
    It's never been a problem for us.[msnsmile]

Although we have never had TCs refused around the Orlando area, if you travel further afield then you may encounter difficulties, certainly many places on the Keys won't accept TCs. Get them in relatively small denominations, as then the shop doesn't have to return much cash - thus less risk to themselves. Would suggest a Nationwide CC as the best option: relatively secure, best exchange rate & acceptable nearly everywhere + a small amount of cash for tolls, carparks and tips.
