We recently checked in at Downtown Disney, handed over our luggage, went for a bite to eat and then went to see Mama Mia at the cinema(Downtown Disney) and then straight on to the airport.

We normally do the downtown check in and then spend the day in one of the parks.

And then a nice easy drive to the airport and all case free

    Superb

We do Downtown check in breakfast at Disney Market Place and then we go to the Mall on Sandlake Road because it is so close to the airport or to Boggy Creek for the same reason.
No food close to flight time for us as we find it easier to sleep on the return journey if we don't eat. Water only on the last day afternoon. no tea or coffee. It makes the flight and jet lag so much easier for us.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, we really will be spoilt for choice on the last day.

Does anyone know for definite if we can still check in at Downtown if we are allocated seats upon arrival due to needing a skycot??

    Thanks.

they allocate your seats when you check in so there shouldn't be a problem allocating you the skycot seats - its the same check in process as the airport.

We have now found a tried and tested formula! If flying Virgin dump the bags at Downtown disney and spend the rest of the day doing whatever you like but book a room at the Hyatt Hotel at the airport before you start having too much fun. [website link edited] They offer a day rate (remember to ask for it!) which means you can check your car in at the airport returns, go to the hotel, check in, have a shower, relax, watch tv and have a decent meal in their restaurant then go through the security nearer the time of your flight. The hotel is literally a elevator ride to the first security process. You can check the fight times from your hotel room too in case of a delay. We have 4 kids and we find it a little oasis! If you are flying with someone else you can always drive up to the airport and dump your bags in the hotel room and go off and enjoy yourselves until you come back later and check in your bags.
