Just quickly looked up some flights (put in 6 Aug returning 20 Aug) London - Orlando and was quoted £646 on AA (via JFK) for an adult. It was an extra £10 each on NWA from Gatwick via Detroit and having done this route many times the transfer is very easy, using a new terminal opened in 2002.

Hope this helps - we'll be out there in August too.

If you (or somebody you know) has a Mastercard credit card, hold any fare on aa.com, call AA Reservations and quote code 'MASTER'. They will take 15% off the base fare. On a fare like that, you'll save around £50 each. (Offer ends 31.3.08 but applies to any flights in 2008).

We are tied to school holidays too and went out in August last year for £2800 (4 adults and 1 child) with US Airways. We booked late, around May/June. I'm constantly checking as the deals are there but they go very quickly.

We just paid £457 each for flights 23rd August flying via Minneapolis with Northwest. We have flown with them before and they were ok. Not the price we would have liked to pay but we are taking my MIL with us and 3 of our daughters friends so we wanted to get it sorted asap. We would have waited longer to see if prices dipped a bit if it was just us going but we didn't want to disappoint anyone if the prices went up!! I always say, if you see a price you are willing to pay then go for it. You may or maynot see them cheaper. The again - you shouldn't look after you have bought them!!

Might also be worth trying the link to Charter Travel at the top of the page. We booked through them last year for 3 weeks in August with US Airways indirect via Charlotte to MCO & back via Philadelphia. Total cost for 4 adults & 1 child £2805. This was a special price which they hadn't advertised on their website.

Good luck with your flight search.

We booked with Virgin in November, Gatwick - Orlando direct. I checked last week and they'd gone up by over £120 a person since then. We've going July 27th - August 10th which I imagine is peak time for cost (and probably the worst weather-wise!) We didn't really have any choice for dates due to other committments in the summer but would rather have travelled later if it had been possible, as it was considerably cheaper.
