Hi All,

Can anyone tell me what US Airways are like ?

How do they compare for example to Virgin Atlantic or BA ? I've heard their legroom/seatpitch is excellent - one of the best at 33in ? is this true ?

Sorry, should have expanded on this - I'm 6'6" so legroom is very important.

Have used US Airways. They generally fly via Philidelphia (From Manchester) but they may well do direct flights also.

They do seem to have more leg room in the US planes, but our experience with flying with a US Airline is favorable.

We always seem to use them now. Just flown with Continential within the last month via Newark NY and throughly enjoyed the flight. No difference really except the leg room and the staff are American.[msnwink]

US Airways use Airbuses and their seat pitch is, indeed, very good, as on most American carriers. They do not do direct flights, and use Charlotte or Philadelphia as their hubs.

They have 'on demand' entertainment which is great as it means that you can stop and start whatever you are watching and return to it when you want, unlike most British carriers where you have to wait until the staff can get round to switching it on, and then you have to watch it when it starts or miss it. So if you start a film (and you decide when to do that) and wish to stop while you eat your lunch, you can do so as it will still be in the same place when you return.

One thing to look out for is that some seats have the 'boxes' which control the entertainnent unit under the seat and that can make the area for your feet smaller.

We would thoroughly recommend US Airways. Hope you have a great flight.

Mark, we have flown US Airways many times and the leg room is good. The flights we have used go from Gatwick to Charlotte and then change to a domestic to MCO (Orlando International). We found that the immigration controls at Charlotte were much quicker and at the MCO end you just pick up your bags and walk through. On the outward journey you do have to recheck your bags which is very easy as the desk is just a few yards from the baggage pick up but on the return bags go straight through.

A bonus with US Airways is that the entertainment controller is hand held rather than in the armrest as on all Virgin flights I have flown which makes it quite difficult to use.

We have flown with them many times too.Never had a bad experience yet. Do not forget to join their dividend miles scheme.

I have never really looked at using them before. Sounds like they offer a good service.

This has recently been posted elsewhere so may also be a factor in your decision.

"US Airways has announced a new baggage policy that will go into effect for travel on or after May 5, 2008, for tickets purchased on or after February 26, 2008. The new policy allows one checked bag (under 50 pounds or 23kg) free for each ticketed customer, along with a carry-on. A second checked bag will incur a fee of $25. Also baggage over 50 pounds will incur fees beginning at $50

Goodness me, that is a bit of a shame. No doubt the other airlines will soon follow suit. Bearing in mind that until quite recently you could take 2 bags of 32K each making a total of 64K it is really getting ridiculous and no better than charter airlines. I do not think this is what you expect of a scheduled airline.

No doubt the passengers, as always, will suffer.

They are good- entertainment system is brilliant. We are using them to fly Vegas to Orlando in March, but have opted for first class, will let you know how that fairs.
