Thanks all, she is to see the doc on Friday and I have advised her to ask for a letter to go with any meds she has to take.

She is still in denial though and says she is going to have one more go at persuading him that she will be good and to see if she can manage without insulin until after holiday.

I don't rate her chances though!

Bless her..I do understand how she feels, I only take my injection once a week, and after 7 years...still dread doing it, and having to organise to take it on hols really irritates me...but..as they say " you know it makes sense!" So I do.
I hope she comes to terms with it and all will work out fine I am sure

[easter1][/quote]If she's been told she needs to go on insulin, she's probably feeling not too well and she'll probably feel heaps better in herself on it and wonder why she worried about it afterwards.

She'll probably be put on an insulin 'pen' which has cartridges of ready mixed insulin and is very easy (and painless) to use.

Most of the info you need is covered in the guide article about travelling with diabetes. http://www.orlandovillas.com/florida...-diabetes.aspx

Due to the current liquid restrictions, insulin needs to be placed in the resealable plastic bags but if it's over the allowance, don't worry just use some more resealable bags. Should you have any problems with security (I'm sure you won't) then ask for the Team Leader at the security check point as they do not stop you taking life saving drugs like insulin because of security restrictions.

Another important tip is always take more than she needs (or thinks she'll need) in case of mishaps or miscalculations. Very often, although the US has insulin available, it's not the same type or mix as in the UK and running out isn't an option in the US.
