"Lemon and sugar for me or strawberries and ice cream but my daughter likes pancakes with nutella chocolate spread on them.

There's a creperie (posh pancake) place in the food court at Bluewater that does a lovely one spread with Nutellea and sliced banana and whipped cream. Think I need to go shopping.

It's strange that pancakes were traditionally made to use up the "rich" foods of eggs, milk and flour etc so it wasnt wasted when everybody gave up the goodies for Lent and yet nowadays pancakes are one of the cheapest desserts.

my two both had nutella choc spread too Steph with thinly sliced banana and toasted almonds, there's been no chocolate at all in this house since the new yr so the nutella was a big treat, dh has already hidden the jar just in case anyone is tempted to tuck in when we're not looking

being firmly back on plan with my healthy eating i decided my pancakes would keep til florida in may and then i'll have more than a few [msnwink]

We managed to get a pancake mix from one of the supermarkets here - an american make I think. We have stuggled lately to find the range of foods that we are used to (for example plain flour - it isn't called that here and we have no idea what the ingredients normally are so we can use something similar [msnembarrased]) so had to cheat for the kids sake.
One of them had lemon (freshly squeezed as we couldn't find any Jif)and sugar and the other went for maple syrup.
Me and Mrs Peg had a couple each and both went for the lemon option - just to say we had had some [msnwink]

All purpose flour would have done the trick -4 oz, with an egg and half a pint of milk

I like Maple Syrup and whipped cream, or sliced oranges fried with butter and a splash of Grand marnier if feeling naughty, but this year, we had lemon and sugar -and I could have eaten tons of them But I had two small ones!!

If anyone is out next week then IHOP are doing free pancakes for Pancake day here, 12th Feb.

Just a thought............. if Pancake Day is Shrove Tuesday, which is the day before the start of Lent, why is it on a different day in the US?

It's National Pancake Day on the 12th.
