    Seattle on a Sunday

My husband is going to Seattle on business in a couple of weeks. His company have decided so late to send him that there were no seats left on the Sunday flight so he's going on Saturday instead. He'll have a Sunday to kill in Seattle. He's been before, but only mid-week.

Does anyone know what (apart from Starbucks!) is open in Seattle on a Sunday? Are shops usually open in the US on Sundays? He's not planning on having a car although he might hire one for the day if it's worthwhile.

    Any suggestions gladly welcome!

Couple of things you may want to try.

    Dave

    -------------------------------------------------
    Fremont Sunday Market
    600 N 34TH St
    Seattle, WA 98103-8604
    Phone: (206) 282-5706

You might find collectibles, new merchandise or just plain junk. The Market goes underground during the winter, taking up residence in the Burke Building Parking structure.

If the weather is reasonable then take a ferry from the downtown terminal across Puget sound to Bainbridge Island. We spent a day doing this with a good meal at lunch time. The link below is an interactive map of the downtown area where the ferry lands and it all within easy walking distance.

There's also the tower - Seattle needle - can you still go up it? On a good day you can see far towards the Rockies. The countryside about a an hour outside is beautiful. Boeing are based in Seattle - wonder if they do any tours?

Seattle is a beautiful city but it's years since I've been. I remember doing an underground tour there, it was fascinating. I've just checked and you can still do it, even on a Sunday http://www.undergroundtour.com/

'BILL SPEIDEL'S UNDERGROUND TOUR is a leisurely, guided walking tour beneath Seattle’s sidewalks and streets.

While you roam the subterranean passages that once were the main roadways and first-floor storefronts of old downtown Seattle, Tour Guides regale you with humorous stories our pioneers didn’t want you to hear. It’s history with a twist!

Pike Place Market is amazing and also open Sunday. The displays of fruit, veg and fish are truly stunning. I still have a framed photo of it on my kitchen wall.

Jane, there will be no shortage of things for your husband to do, it's just a shame you can't go with him to enjoy it too! [msnwink]

Thanks for reminding me of some great times in an wonderful place.

Thanks folks - I'll pass those on to him. This is the second time he's been. I think he went up the needle when he went in the Autumn - he also went to some sort of museum of music if that means anything to anyone! He couldn't easily find out what else to do without a car as it's such a big place - I think it needs planning ahead. He goes to visit Microsoft. Last time he went to the Redmond campus and stayed in Bellevue but I think he's going somewhere else this time - I'll have to find out exactly where!

I'd love to go with him but the flights are horrible expensive (OK so he doesn't fly cattle class as the company are paying) but I'm not sure whether going all that way just for four days is really worth it!
