    Virgin Check-In

    Just a quick question.

I have booked with Continental Airways for my short trip to Florida in Feb. Our out bound Journey is Manchester Via Newark NY to Orlando.

My return journey is direct Orlando - Manchester with Virgin.

My question is simple. As the flight booking is with Continental Airlines but Continental have used Virgin for my return flight. Am I aloud to use the Downtown Disney Check In on the morning of my return ?

I'm sure I will be but just thought I would check.

The general rule with these things is that you check in with the carrier who operates the flight. i.e. Virgin. They will issue the Boarding Pass.

I don't actually know the answer for sure but I don't see any reason why you can't use whatever check-in arrangements Virgin have in place including online check-in and the Downtown Disney facility.

If you are able to use online checkin with Virgin they are currently giving you 250 miles for doing so (each way that you use the online).

I personally won't be using Downtown Disney any more, we'll just keep the bags in the car till we go to the airport. Reason I don't think it's worth $10 to do so plus losing time from the last day to go and do so. I have family who are going in the summer and they are flying with Virgin and whilst I used to recommend it with 8 of them travelling $80 is a lot to pay for doing so.

I have used continental via Virgin as well as using them for their own flights indirect.

When we used them a couple of years ago. We had to checkin with continental. not sure if its changed now.

I always use the online checkin now though much easier. with both continental and virgin. never used the bagdrop at downtown.

Many thanks for your answers guys.

I think I will ask Continental when I check in for my out bound flight to New York.

Do you have flight number for this segment? If it's a VS number then you can check-in with Virgin (and can use the DD facility). If it's a CO flight number, it's Continental's check-in.

Virgin's check in generally leaves a lot to be desired. On our last trip a few weeks ago, we checked in online for departure at Manchester, and arrived to just make a bag drop. It didn't work like that. They used the same line for bag drop as regular check in so we stood for nearly 40 mins, which really annoyed me.

On the way back, checking in online doesn't issue you with a boarding pass. They did have a separate queue for bag drop only, but you had to go looking for it, it wasn't marked. Because there was no boarding pass issued, there was no evidence that you actually had checked in online, and the bag drop line was full of people who assumed their outbound online check in covered their inbound trip as well, so another 40 mins in line. It wasn't as bad as the horrendous queues at regular check in, but the idea of breezing up to the counter, waving your boarding card and dropping off your luggage in a couple of minutes is a complete fiction.

It really made no difference whether you had done it online or not. Having said that, the last time I checked in at Downtown Disney, it was a lot quicker.

The Flight No is a CO one so I will head to the Continental Check In at Orlando on my return.

That wasn't our experience on 2nd Jan, I must admit, we checked in online at the villa, we dont keep a printer there so couldnt print boarding pass, but we foound th ebag drop (as we've used it before we knew to check in there and the security person asked if we had checked in online, so nobody should have got through, we were next in line so went straight to counter and dropped off bags.

We always check in at DTD its superb Drop bags off about 9.30 rest of day to do what we like and not have to worry about all the luggage being left in the car.
Its a good job we used DTD,last trip, as my daughter had, had chicken pox while away and when we went to check in we were told we needed a "Fit To Fly" letter from a doctor.
No problem, we had time to go to the nearest hospital and get the letter, after a 3 hour wait[:O] Had we gone to check in at MCO we would never have had time to get to a hospital, wait 3 hours, get back to MCO and catch our flight. Also we have "Never" had to pay for this service as we have always had vouchers[msnwink][msnwink]
