Sat Nav Purchase

We have been thinking of getting a Sat Nav but know very little about them, what I do know is any one I buy must have USA maps, however can you buy one that covers all the US (it is a very big place)also would I be better of buying one here or in the US.

I purchased a Tom Tom for my hubbie for xmas, it comes with UK and Ireland and Europe and you can go to the web site and download US, I just bought him an extra sd card to download to, not that I have done it yet, but will do shortly

Some of the higher models have Europe and US maps already loaded.

The tomtom 910 is a great unit and comes with full uk and usa maps. It is cheaper in teh usa but you will have to buy and download the uk maps.

I also bought a TomTom from the Uk with European maps.Its an easy process to download the maps for the USA. I went for just the south eastern USA region and I think it cost about £40 to download onto a memory card.
You just download the operating system onto the card also, and when you go over to Florida swap the memory card over on the TomTom and it automatically works in the US.

The Garmin 370 has UK, Europe and USA maps as standard. It also has Bluetooth.

Thanks for all your replies. Martin it was a tom tom 910 that I was looking at, which now seems to have been replaced by the 920

Sorry that should have been the 720 which is the latest model.

Looked at the 720, no USA maps but you can download them at the moment for £30 which seems good to me

Sorry the 920 comes with us and europe maps. Although it may be cheaper to buy the 720 and download the europe maps (as you mentioned).
