I did it!!! My Florida goal is to lose 18lbs in 9 weeks which is 2lbs per week if possible and this week I lost 2lbs[clap][clap][clap]

I am really chuffed as I have worked hard at it and know I can do it - 16lbs to go before Florida - 8 weeks and counting[clap][clap][clap]

Paula hope you are feeling better now and Ali hope your daughter is too[grouphug]

Brenda it is a bit complicated doing sw at first but green days will really suit you. When I first did sw it was much more than I normally eat but it is designed in such a way that although the quantity may be more the overall calorie intake will be less and it will be very healthy. I would also consider having potatoes as they are very healthy when cooked correctly and will widen your choice on green days[msnsmile2]

    This is how it works...............

You may have tried obsessive calorie or point counting, calculating portion sizes, eating nothing but cabbage soup or living on grapefruit and eggs. Didn’t work, did it?
We guarantee you need never put yourself through any of that again. They don’t work because by and large they create hunger, boredom and an unhealthy focus on food. They create a mind trap that leads to the eventual failure of yet another ‘diet’ and the inevitable loss of self-esteem and self-confidence in your ability to succeed, when you are not to blame at all! You didn’t fail on the diet – the diet failed you!

At Slimming World, DIET (Dare I Eat That?) is considered a 'four letter word'! With Food Optimising no food or drink is forbidden so the variety is endless and there’s plenty to eat!

Food Optimising is a highly successful weight loss technique which will show you how to develop your own personalised, healthy, delicious, filling, weight loss and weight maintenance strategy for life.
Just because Food Optimising has been made deceptively easy and user-friendly, don't be fooled into thinking that the scientific concepts behind this amazing way of eating are themselves simple.

The energy density of a food can be summed up as the amount of calories given off by a specific weight of food.

Proteins and complex carbohydrates give off less than half the calories supplied by fats. This, combined with their great satiating properties, produce a synergistic effect that makes make proteins and complex carbohydrates amazing beneficial to a slimmer.

Even though Food Optimising naturally lowers your calorie intake, you will never need to count, calculate or compute a single calorie value. Uniquely, Food Optimising takes into consideration not just the calorific value of the food but how well it satisfies our appetite too.

Satiation is the term used to describe the satisfying qualities of a food. Foods that are highly satiating make you feel fuller quicker, at the time of eating.

Satiety describes the lasting effects of satiation, in other words, foods with a high satiety are those foods that stave off hunger for the longest.

In 1996, research sponsored by Slimming World at the Rowett Institute in Aberdeen, Scotland, found that there was a hierarchy within the macro-nutrients (proteins, carbohydrates and fats). Proteins and (complex) carbohydrates were found to have much greater satiation and satiety than fats. Foods rich in these nutrients satisfy hunger and suppress appetite in the most effective way.

Forget putting your life and your health at risk with invasive surgery like stomach stapling; forget drugs that interfere with your body and your minds natural, healthy functions. This completely natural and completely effective way to suppress appetite works – 100%!

Whilst the nutritional aspect of slimming is vital to any slimming plan, the psychological aspect is equally important for long-term success. Slimming World was the first slimming club in the UK to consider the practical and psychological needs of slimmers, and understands how important psychology is in providing a practical solution to the problems of being overweight.

Slimming World's stroke of genius is its concept of Free Food, formulated

well done Julie, i'm so pleased for you[clap][clap][clap]

Ali, i think you need to eat more too but more of the right things, being prepared is one of the best things you can do, that way you are less likely to snack on the bad things and if you want that chocolate then why not build some in? i have something chocolatey every day [msnsmile] you shouldn't see it as totally forbidden

Julieanne, my friend you are quiet, how are you getting on?

i am still struggling with tiredness this week but trying to stay on track, i have used all my syns but not too worried as i still feel in control, i will be a single mum again on sunday so i think a big bowl of fruit salad to dip into will be a must, gonna make a big pan of soup and a few quiches this afternoon to have something instant to hand for when i feel my energy sagging

Well done Elaine and Pam & George - it always falls off the men doesn't it, sooooooooo unfair!

Am thick with a flu bug despite having had a flu jab[msnsad], throat feels as if it has razor blades in so lots of hot water with lemon in going down or have no voice. Leg is still open and burning up, am so fed up with this and I hope the op in April is not going to take 3 months+ to finally close up[V].

Sandra & Pam think we should have a get-together, only have ED (and possibly YD if she will make her mind up!) with me, so it will be a real girly hols.

Am just starting to get quotes in for the work to be done on the hall and bathroom, and have still not heard from the contents insurers about getting the work done whereas the buildings assessor was here last week and sent us a letter confirming everything that needs to be done, we just have to provide quotes. So when I have a voice again (ha!) will be chasing up the contents insurers. We just love living with peeling wallpaper, bare floorboards and no lighting in the downstairs hall as the water poured through the chandelier connection.

We officially opened the showroom last week - had all the competition in during the week some pretending to be needing work done and others quite honest! Luckily amidst all this also some customers!

Off to walk the hound - can actually move today had to get one of the gals to do it yesterday as legs like jelly (still weak but less jellyish today!) Elder hound (who is in my picture) is not at all good, on 3 morphine tablets a day and fast losing control of everything, she cannot walk more than a few steps now, so I think I am going to have a long talk with one of the vets, I hate this but think she deserves to go before it gets even worse. She's only just had her 11th birthday but tore her cruciate ligament when she was 2½ and has had 2 operations on it which have both failed, so she has been in constant discomfort if not outright pain for a long time, but very stoic about it.

Fiona, [grouphug][grouphug][grouphug] as a loving pet owner you are doing the right thing considering the health and discomfort of your dog. I'm sure the vet will give you the best advice. She looks absolutely lovely in your avator and you have obviously cared for her very well and given her the best for her 11 years. [grouphug][grouphug][grouphug]

Fantastic achievement Julie - a great inspiration for me[clap][clap]

So sorry to hear about your dog Fiona. I can appreciate the dilema. We had a cat (very young) which a fox caught and badly mauled his hind leg and we were given the choice whether to operate or have him put down. We chose the former as he was so young and the vet managed to patch him up. The vet had to remove his ball joint and now he limps quite badly and we have been warned that he is likely to end up with arthritis early so we could be in your position. You have to do what is right for the animal and think of the years of joy it has brought [grouphug]

Julie, thank you so much for posting all the great information above. I am feeling much clearer about how it all works. I have started today with the menus on SW and had porridge for breakfast with some strawberries and dried apricots I found in the cupboard. Couldn't manage 2 pieces of toast but had 1 with apricot jam (I don't like marmalade. Lunch is going to be the cheesy jacket with beans and coleslaw. Evening meal is spaghetti with bolognaise. Three mugs of green tea this morning and I will save my black coffee for after meals.

Brenda, you are doing brilliantly! Good food diary so far today. Jacket potato is a real favorite, filling, warming etc!!

    I have had
egg and soya sausage with toast for brekkie
cheese and pickle sarney for lunch - I never have sandwiches and just fancied one for a change!!!

Black cofee and some Pepsi max!

Keep it up Brenda, at least you are almost understanding of SW. It can take a while, well, it did me!!! The absolute best thing for you to do is attend the class. Everyone is friendly and you will be introduced to the class along with any other newbies. There is no embarrassment whatsoever, and I know you can do it even if it means going alone. You will soon be chatting and getting more menu ideas from other people, who, at the end of the day, are in exactly the same position as you. They want to lose weight, and they took the steps necessary by joining the SW group.

I will 'will' you along next week.

Fabulous Julie, hope it stays that way.

Yes Fiona, we should have a meet up in May/June.

I have now got a sebaceacous cyst on one of the lower parts of my body which I got just as I went away. The GP said nothing to worry about he would make an appointment at the Nuffield on my return. Well, it burst the night I got home. Yuk!! It is so painful and now I am on antibiotics and have to wait until it has all died down before I can have it cut out. I have to have 4 baths per day and dressings which takes up a lot of time but hey ho, there are plenty worse than me. I have also cricked my neck and can't turn towards the right!! Talk about as you get older - I will be 63 in March - well it appears to be true. I just need 20 years knocking off[msnwink]

The food plan is going well at present, but I am tackling it on a daily basis rather like a recovering alcohlic - one day at a time[party2]Just kidding, I don't even like the taste of drinks, so a few people suspect I am a recovering alcoholic!!![stupid1]

Hope everyone manages to stay focused over the weekend.

    Sandra
