This should not cause a problem in general as the car rental companies will do their best to keep the booked car for you. We've had similar situations before and not had a problem with car availability especially during quiet times.
We were snowed in at Chicago once for 24 hours and I rang Dollar from the hotel we were provided with and they said that the car would be waiting for us whenever we arrived - and it was.
