High Grove is another gated community.
Sunset Ridge is gated but only recently have the gates worked correctly as residents have managed to drive into them twice[msnmad] Misjudged the speed of them opening!!

Terrace Ridge near Champions Gate is gated but as Blott says there are loads of great communities that aren't gated.
Gated would not be top of my list...mostly because I was stick the wrong side of them once for 2 hours trying to met up with a friend..other times I've found them to be left open...as Blot says there are some lovely homes about on none gated I would look for what I wanted in a holiday home first...within that you will get a few gated....
This year (Nov) was the first year we have stayed on a gated community, on all of our previous trips it was not something that we have considered important. That said, it did make us feel a bit more secure, not really sure why given that the security was of little deterrence, but some how we did feel a bit more.... i guess...... contained.[msnsmile]
Not sure it would be at the top of my list for future bookings and for the right villa it certainly wouldn't be a show stopper, but it would definitely be part of the consideration.
I guess it is all about personal choice

I guess it is all about personal choice[/quote]Indeed it is about personal choice but there are no 'unsafe' communities currently advertised on OV, whether gated or not. All communities are just as 'safe' as anyone could wish or hope for.
Wherever you choose to stay in an OV home, you're going to have a fandabbydozy good time!

I agree, we have stayed in many different communities in Orlando and never felt anything short of completely safe every time, my point was though that, for us, it just felt a bit more contained and I think could be a consideration for anyone on their first trip who has any concerns about staying in a house in a foreign country, there is no doubt it just gives you that extra piece of mind.
Again, it is personal preference and just my view, it would certainly not be a make or break feature for me.
