    ALI what's that?

    Hi All,

Been doing some searching for insurance.

from avis i can get a small car (group a) there's only 2 of us for £184 pay at station or £206 pay now.

Firstly, i don't understand why there are two prices? and secondly this is what's included.

    Local Tax (TAX)
    Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
    Additional Liability Insurance (ALI)
    Vehicle Registration Fee (VRF)
    Airport/city/other surcharge

What is ALI? and does the above cover ALL the insurance i will need?

Is that £184 for a week? Month? Year?

Why Avis? You can get a small car from this web site for around £100 a week from Dollar/Alamo/Budget with all insurances included.

I assume Liability Insurance is that which is called by Supplementary Liability Insurance(SLI) by some rental firms and some have other terms. It is normally for US$1,000,000.00 and is to insure you against claims made against you. Absolutely essential insurance.

As Robert has said if you are booking direct with the hire company in the US you will have a lot of additional on top when you pick up the car. They will quote you the hire cost, and thats it, then when you pick the car up it will add this, you need that, oh and then theres the fuel charge as well.

If you book through the car hire link here its all included with the GOLD option NO additionals at all. and very much cheaper than what you are paying now.

ALI is equivalent to what we call SLI (Supplemental Liability Insurance). The problem is with booking direct with Avis, as you can see they do not include the other insurances such as CDW / UMP nor all the taxes and surcharges. UMP and the surchages alone will come to approx $25 per day in addition to the rental cost.

    HI Roger,

That's the answer I wanted! the £184 was for 2 weeks, however, with yourselves I can get a car with budget for £202 for two weeks.
