    Wot no kids

I should start by setting the context, we are lucky enough that every year in November my mother in law comes to look after our 2 children (Luke 8 and Annie 7) whilst my wife and I have a week away together.[msnsmile2]

For the last couple of years we have gone to the same resort in Jamaica, but as we both love Florida we thought we would give this a go this year. We had been to Orlando earlier in the year with the Children and have booked for next Feb but you can't get too much of a good thing right?

Well, we left on the 10th November for Orlando, we had booked Virgin PE but were late checking in and got the worst 2 seats on the plane. Downstairs in the middle of a block of 4. Whenever we have flown premium economy before we have always been upstairs and in my view it is well worth the money, but, the seats downstairs didn't seem any better than the economy seats and so we were very disappointed. [msncry] Made a note to make sure I checked in online for the return journey to ensure we were seated upstairs.[msnwink]

Anyway, the flight was pretty uneventful and we were straight through immigration. Both of the Gatwick flights landed at the same time and the queue was massive so we were lucky to get there first (only a 5 minute wait). Then off to pick up our car (booked through here of course) at the Dollar desk. I had joined Dollar express but actually there was no queue at all anyway.

Then off to the villa. We rented in Windsor Palms this holiday, the first time we have stayed at this resort. It was a great location very close to everything and we are looking to go back there for the Feb trip.

    So on with the holiday

    Day 1
Up early - still on UK time and at the cracker Barrel for an early breakfast. For some reason we have never been to CB before but it became the morning stop for breakfast for the rest of the holiday. We then went round to pick up our tickets from the office as we had left them too late for delivery.

On to the Island of Adventures, and the first time it hit me that the time I miss my kids the most when away is when I see other people with their children. Now in Jamaica that was not too much of a problem....but in a theme park in florida well....let's just say it wasn't the same without the kids there.[msnembarrased]

Left at lunch time at went shopping at the premium outlet mall and on for a late lunch, early diner at Bahama Breeze. It is amazing how cheap everything felt with the great exchange rate at the moment.[msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

Day 2 - Early up again and CB for a Pancake breakfast then on to sea world (my favourite park) spent a really relaxing day there. The park was very quite and we were not in any rush and so we just strolled round, enjoyed the shows, fed the dolphins, and sat outside nursing a coffee or a long time. It really did feel relaxed not charging to the next thing all the time. Dinner tonight at the texas de brazil .....fantastic!

Day 3 - You guessed in CB for breakfast and then a lazy day by the pool followed by another shopping trip....everything was just so cheap! Went to Cafe Uno for lunch and Chillis for dinner - very pleasant.

Day 4 - got up to go to Busch Gardens, but ended up at Universal. had a great day and did both parks they were so so quite.[msnsmile2]

Day 5 - finally made it to Busch Gardens and I was determined to go on Shiekra after I bottled in last time. I am not good with heights and whilst I love roller coasters it just looks so tall[msneek][msnscared]. Finally after doing everything else it was time to face my fears. That has to be the longest climb up on a roller coaster anywhere and then it takes you round the corner so slowly...what a tease. Anyway, loved it and second time rode at the front of the car which really did make more intense. By now we were both really missing the children and made a vow to not take our November holiday next year.[msnscared]

Day 6 had a lazy day at Seaworld again and then went to pleasure island in the evening for dinner and the clubs....had a great night and reminded

awww Fraser sad you missed your kids but am sure your glad to be back with them, i think it does you good to have a break from them once in a while, my late mother in law had (when we just had the 5) all in one go, went to collect them monday morning, and dear MIL was dead by the afternoon, missing her terrribly but the kids adored being with her and their grandad to enjoy their time!!! dont ever feel bad, just tell yourselves theyre having a fab time with their grandparents!!!

    enjoying your trip report

We flew from Gatwick on the same day, we were on the delayed 11.15 which eventually left just before the later one.

Didn't mind too much as we were in the lounge, didn't like the wait in the corridor to go through to the gate. Wondered were the security police were as no sign of them at the entrance to First/Premium Economy check-in desks.

Still getting over the jet lag so will post a report later when my memory comes back.

    Yeah,

I know, seemed like a strange way to do it. It is the first time I have had a to queue like that to get into the gate. I guess they had their reasons and when it comes to security I never complain - they are doing it for all our benefit I guess.

I think the change is because they are now encouraging people to use automatic check in machines or check in online, you then drop off the bags. The gates are the first place that you can be asked the security questions now hence the long line when you get to the gate.

We've always had problems on previous flights when approaching the check in desks and would find our way barred. I was beginning to get a complex about it but having read reports from others on the Virgin Frequent Flyers forum it happens to everyone.

I've always called them the Security Police when really they just ask a couple of questions which you also get asked at check-in and put a sticker on your passport.
