The motoring environment in Florida must be one of the most boring in the world – completely flat, generally straight roads and low speed limits strictly enforced in urban areas. A district nurse’s heavily laden 1960’s 850cc Morris Minor would have no difficulty keeping up with all the traffic; so power is not an issue on any rental car.
I am 6’ 5” and in my experience there is little to choose between any size of car for the driver’s comfort; albeit with the seat fully back there is not a lot of room behind the driver for a large adult in the smaller cars.
Thus the limiting factor is normally luggage space for the trip to and from the airport; and I have never taken other than a ‘carry –on’ suitcase for the last 20 + trips to Florida.
Last Easter with a party of 5 adults I rented a Lincoln Town car(the biggest non-SUV available??) and it was a huge disappointment. I got it primarily as my son fancied driving it and he was equally unimpressed.
The best US rental car I have driven was a Chrysler 300C(a free upgrade from an economy 2 door!!!) but that is because it is based on the old Mercedes E class chassis.
So I normally get the cheapest car available as it is adequate for my needs; that said the bigger cars, if you need/want one are excellent value.
Touring in other parts of the USA is of course a different matter.
