    Air passenger duty

Can anyone please tell me if when they paid the extra air passenger duty on line if they got the required voucher that Virgin promised, see below-

Virgin Atlantic believes this is one tax that shouldn't leave you out of pocket, so if you pay in advance online we're offering you £20 off your next Economy flight or £40 off your next Premium Economy or Upper Class flight when you book direct with Virgin Atlantic through one of our reservation centres. You will receive this voucher, complete with Terms & Conditions, at the airport when you show your email payment receipt. We're turning higher APD into something a little less taxing.

when we flew from Man in august we had the receipts as stated but they knew nothing about it, I e-mailed virgin on our return and they sent a bog standard e-mail to say someone would reply within 21 days that was on the 6.09.07

You should have been given your voucher at check in. I forgot to ask for mine at check in on one of my flights last year and just emailed when I arrived in Orlando. They sent me a voucher in the post within a few days.

If you still have the receipt for payment - or a copy of it on a CC or bank statement - I'd send that off with a covering letter.

It may be that they haven't kept any of the vouchers to issue though, as they have now stopped collecting the extra taxes, I believe it stopped 24 August.

They could send you a money off voucher though or some FF miles in compensation.

Last year? Wasn't the new higher rate only introduced in February this year Jill?

Sorry - been over quite a few times THIS year, it just feels like last year[msnembarrased] Probably due to the fact that I am always booking and looking forward to the next one too!

According to the terms & Conditions on the voucher you can't use it with any flights that were at offer prices though ! as very few people actually pay the full Virgin fare I wonder if this will be a good " get out " clause for them !!

I flew in july this year having booked in 2006
so had to pay the extra at the airport.
They didnt really know what to do at the airport so went to reservations desk and asked for my voucher.
They told me the voucher was only available to people who paid the extra tax on line.
I paid in cash at the airport.
So i held my ground and accused them of discriminating against cash payers.
I made it clear i wasn't going anyware without a fight.
I know its only £20 but you have to make a stand to these companies.
Especially when you think how much owners spend with the likes of virgin.
Anyway got the vouchers , now all I have to do is spend them.
Probably cant use them with miles plus money anyway.

Jean I've already used one of mine for an 'N' fare for Chris in February - i.e. sale at £288. They booked the fare over the telephone but only took the money from my CC and issued the E-ticket once the voucher had been received.

I sent the voucher to them by recorded delivery along with a note detailing the passenger name, date of travel and booking reference. Within a couple of days the e-ticket was issued.

When details of the vouchers paid where released, the website clearly stated that they would only be issued to customers who paid the extra tax on line and handed in a receipt at check-in.

I think this was more to do with making procedures easier though as it would have took ages to collect everybody's payment at check in.
