we've had a think and wondering if this would work

    march 09

london to sanfrancisco 3 nights stay

then onto las vegas for another 3 nights

and finally to orlando for the last 8 nights(maybe longer) then home

i'm ok with sanfrancisco as my parents have been and said it's ok for the kids

but vegas[msnoo] can this be done with children? mine are 14 and 11 yrs old age wise but emotionally they are much younger, we'd need hotels for Sf and Lv that would have to be a suite with a seperate bedrooms for the kids or interconnecting, i cannot see this being a problem and for orlando well that's not a problem it'll be a villa[msnwink]

if not las vegas can anyone suggest an alternative that would suit the time of yr

San Francisco will be a bit chilly and wet in March - I know that's not a problem for you but it's an 'out and about' kind of place. My kids were around the age of yours the first time I went and they found it a bit boring (yours may not of course). A few years ago Las Vegas tried to re-brand itself as a family resort but seems to have abandoned that strategy. Even so, it's a great place for a few days whatever age you are.

2 bedroom hotel suites aren't easy to find but they are there if you look hard. As a result, they're not cheap. I had a beautiful 2 bedroom suite in the Mirage a couple of years ago which I thought was decent value. You often have to ring the hotels direct to see what they have.

It's hard to recommend alternatives if I don't know your tastes but if you're in that part of the world think about seeing the Grand Canyon. It's an easy trip from Las Vegas and you can drive, go by bus or fly at reasonable prices. Again, it won't be warm there in March and some parts of it might not be fully accessible.

If you stick to the proposed itinerary, remember that you'll lose at least 3 full days of your holiday travelling. If I was you, I'd do either Las Vegas or San Francisco before (or even better, after) Orlando but probably not both.

Finally, as my wife constantly reminds me, you're going to need holiday clothes for cold and warm weather so more packing and baggage to think about.

    A few other notes...

As far as I remember, children weren't even allowed to walk through the casino area in our hotel in Las Vegas - I assume that's to do with the law and not the hotel we stayed in being picky. But, there's the Stratosphere rides to do and also there was a Star Trek ride in the Hilton - not sure if the ride (or even the hotel!) is still there though.

There was snow in the Grand Canyon in mid April when we went and a blizzard of it still coming down and it was jolly cold. It was also decidedly chilly and wet in SF on the same trip.

Don't even think of renting a car in SF as there's nowhere much to park it! Hotels charge a lot for overnight parking (more than $20 per night). You can get around easily either on foot or using the great trollies.

I live here in the US, and have been to all of the cities discussed up to this point. I would tend to avoid Boston, New York, Chicago, and Niagara Falls in early March. Not because there is anything wrong with the cities that time of year, but more so because of the potential problems with travel schedules and connections.

Washington DC; Nashville, Tennessee; Atlanta, Georgia; would all be cool not cold locations with plenty of site seeing opportunities, and great food tasting opportunities. Some of the regional cuisine is absolutely wonderful and should be sought out in every location. These cities are all less that a 2.5 hour flight from MCO, and you will find excellent accomodation rates at that time of the year.

Branson, Missouri is currently one of the travel hot spots in the US, it is an entire town dedicated to musical stage presentations and loads of other diversions. Here is the website for the City of Branson http://www.branson.com/ Early March weather in Branson will average highs of 7°C and lows in the 0° C range.

Some of the truly beautiful areas of this country are indeed winter delights, but unless you are ready for temperatures in the -6°C range, it is best to stay a bit more to the south.

Would probably got to Biloxi to visit my Cousins. Other than that will probably fly the many places on my list of Ultimate Roller-coaster Theme Parks to Visit.
