To get a US iPhone working you have to sign up for a contract with AT&T. The phone will then work in the UK but will be charging at AT&T international roaming rates and will cost you a small fortune.
Best wait until they come out in the UK as they will have a UK phone service provider (rumoured to be O2).
Thanks will have to find some thing else in florida for daughters xmas present.
LOL - the new iPod's that have literally just come out could be very tempting [msnwink]

I was playing with an iphone today and to be honest they are not up to much, the sony ericson p990 is a much better phone (although the iphone is pretty).

Wow - totally the opposite to my experience of the iPhone. We had several really good looks at it while in Florida recently and I thought it blowed all current smart phones out of the water. Some things were very subtle but I can imagine if you use it all the time they would really come into their own.

My main gripe was the lack of wifi but maybe that has been fixed now. No compatability with exchange. The phone is very slow to react to commands, it freoze 3 times through the day needing a restart. Texting is annoying to say the least (something which I am a heavy user of).
As a single user/mp3 it is fine but for day to day business/work use, it does let it self down. Obvioulsy with all things mac they do listen and improve products dramaticly.
The mp3 side of things is lacking to, as far i could see you can only import play lists and have little control over the music on the phone itself.
Some basic features we also missing such as voice dailling and video capture (very important in the service industry).
I suspect I was trying one of the first units, which can only be improved on.

It has wi-fi built in and worked really well when we tried it. As you travel it will automatically detect and connect to available wi-fi networks.
There is an application you can get to use it flawlessly with Exchange but this was released a short time after the iPhone came out.
The MP3 side of things: it's a normal iPod and works in the same way as an iPod. You can create playlists on the go the same way as you've always been able to do with iPods.
