Paula, on a brighter note, we did the same 0755 United flight last June with the same connection and we DID make the Orlando flight. We were watching the clock to say the least and the situation wasn't helped by Washington only opening one immigration desk but we were fotunate! Also we were approximately 75% along the queue so the tip above regarding getting off the plane asap and getting towards the front of the queue is a good one.

It might be an idea to get one member of your party to get off the plane quickly and leave hand luggage to the rest so they can go straight to Immigration and join the queue. Good, luck, anyway! Fingers crossed.

<blockquote id="quote" class="ffs">quote:There is no airline in the world that will accept responsibility for a missed connection caused by excessive security checks. Stated connection times are sufficient if there are no delays, and the airline could (probably ligitimately) claim any delays were not down to them.[/quote]

I think we are at cross purposes here.

I never claimed that airlines "will accept responsibility for a missed connection caused by excessive security checks."

My contention is that they have a responsibility to get the passenger to their destination if they are booked on a 2 leg flight with that airline; it is not a matter of goodwill.

However given your interpretation or mine I think we both agree that the OP will be delivered to MCO!

It was the wider issue of taking responsibilty and accomodating passengers overnight that I was addressing.

We flew Continental from Manchester to Newark and then on to Las Vegas with a short connection time-I found Newark which is Continental's hub very well organised. We claimed our luggage and then dropped it almost immediately-even so we were running (not a pretty sight!)on to our flight and it was quite literally that as we got on they shut the door and off we went! All part of the adventure.

Only if the airline accepts that they were the cause of the passenger missing the second leg. If they do not accept that, then (in their opinion) they do not have any responsibility, and you will be relying upon goodwill.

However, as you say, there are many interpretations, by many people, on the many regulations affecting this area of air travel. Some interpretations are better than others

Whether obliged to or not, United will ensure the OP gets to the final destination.

Thanks again everyone for being so helpful - all your replies have left me much less stressed; as you say Sandra "what will be will be" so there's absolutely no point in worrying - so as from now on there will be less freting from me and I shall get down to the more important task of planning all the exciting things we're going to do when we're in Florida [msnsmile]
    Thanks everyone
    Paula

We went last year, went from Heathrow to Miami and then to Orlando. had a gap of like 1 Hour and 20 Minutes and we made it on the plain in time with 10 minutes to spare luckily. We even had time get something eat and go to the toilet so it was not too bad.

Unsure how Washington airport is though =/
