    Huge American Portions

We've been to Florida 4 times and before we went went we heard stories of the huge portions that you get in USA restaurants, but so far we have failed to find these restaurants apart from your Ponderosas or Sizzlers which is OK to stock up for a breakfast before setting out for the Parks but not too pleasant for an evening meal.Maybe we are just pigs on the portions we eat at home but can someone give us some good hints for good restaurants in Orlando?

I've noticed that sometimes you can go to a restaurant, order two different meals and then one comes out at a "normal" size and the other is huge - I think it's the luck of the draw in what you pick (and it's usually my meal that is huge ).

Some of my personal favourite restaurants include Pizzeria Uno/Chicago Steakhouse (the starters are usually pretty big), Bennigans (an Irish Steakhouse which does a huge deep fried sandwich) and IHOP (lots of choice and so reasonable, you can add extras and still pay a good price). Also, for Seafood try Shells (down to earth with good food and very reasonable) or for something a bit different go to Bahama Breeze (Caribbean style).

    Hi Melfrank
I agree with you that things have changed in the restaurants with regards portion size. One restaurant we went to I actually walked out still hungry. It was Black Angus steak house where I had steak (of course) it came with 12 chips-how sad am I for counting,no salad or veggies at all, having said that the steak itself was a fillet and twice the size we would be served at home but overall things have definitely gotten smaller.

Try all the all you can eat buffets!! Cant get bigger portions then that. Shoneys has a nice breakfast one and if you go on Sat. and Sundays around 11 you get breakfast and lunch.

We still find the portions huge. Can't eat everything at places such as Chilli's. TGIF, Carrabbas, Outback etc unless you just have a salad.

Fiona, I agree with you. I usually order one meal and I share it with someone in our party (Not my hubby I hasten to add, he won't share his steak with anyone) Most restaurants will willingly do this and even bring it on two separate plates. I then enjoy my meal and eat it all. I hate to waste the food, so this works all round and we save a few $$.

Maureen I agree, I hate to see food being wasted. Mind you quite a few times we
got a doggy bag and took the food back to the villa. The kids just loved having
    pizza for breccie
